Ok - who had "less than five periods" in the Matty-and-Mitch-back-together sweepstakes?
They didn't produce, but Knies-Matty-Domi didn't look any worse than Knies-Matty-Mitch lately.
Meanwhile Willy-JT-Mitch was awful. Willy on his wrong wing (not that it makes any difference) playing with one guy who can shoot but not pass and another who can pass but not shoot, and both way too slow to play with him. Even with Patches and JT (speaking of slow) Willy looked better in the third aside from bobbling the breakaway.
One improvement I did notice was that Willy was getting physical - instead of his usual just being willing to take hits, he was actually hitting. Probably frustration.
Marner is absolutely horrible as the point on the PP. No shot, fumbles the puck, poor passing choices, and too slow to get back on a turnover. Nylander was better there, but more important on the left half-boards. We really need to go with Knies, JT, Matty, Willy, and a D who can (and will) shoot.
Nylander scored 9 goals in 8 games, and suddenly gets Marner as a linemate. Was Berube trying to get Mitch going or punishing Willy?
