Post-Game Talk: Leafs lose 2-1

He did? He did it once to Marner and then apologized to him. The odd time he did it to nylander but Keefe never held the stars responsible. He walked back any criticism he directed at them.

Matthews Marner and nylander have been running this team since Babcock got fired. Babcock is the only one that held them accountable. He did some garbage stuff while here but he’s been right about the core whether anyone wants to admit it or not.

Kid gloves only, no accountability or they practucally scream abuse.

We seen Matthews after his 2nd return from injury this year, it was incredible, he was dynamic hitting, scoring basically playing like what should be expected from a $13 mil. per player, what have we seen from him the last 2 games, I'm thinking his prior injury(s) have resurfaced.

Let's hope not.

He’s saving himself for what’s important to him, the 4 nations cup

There is a fundamental problem in trying to import toughness, resilience and grit into a roster that is top heavy with finesse/talent players that don’t have another gear.

You can only play one or the other at a time. So your choice is talent with no guts (Matthews, Marner, and especially flyby boy Nylander) or guys that have grit but couldn’t put the puck in an ocean most nights. And why would the guys in the bottom of the roster sacrifice themselves when the other guys are making double digits to coast along or blow the zone early every shift?

Until one, and preferably all, of those top guys are willing to go to dirty areas, pay the price to make plays, and shift into high gear when things are on the line this team will always fail. They are all wildly overpaid, have been treated with kid gloves, and have been handed everything without having earned it.

So there are no outside motivators left - only them deciding they want to be winners. This is the last kick of the can before heads will certainly have to roll all over the Leafs org so it’s time to step up or ship out.

Yes but the bottom 6 are putrid. They could score once in a while right? IMO McMann is now more of a top 6 tweener that a depth scorer, he should be good for 20.

Domi 3 goals in 41 games
Kampft 3 goals in 36 games
Holmberg 2 goals in 37 games
Dewar 0 goals in 29 games
Reaves 0 goals in 30 games
Myers 0 in 19 games
Tanev 1 in 48 games
McCabe 1 in 40 games
Timmins 1 in 42 games

I get that some players like Tanev and McCabe are here to defend but hell would it hurt to have them throw in an occasional goal every once in while. When you play the Leafs you know their D is not scoring or getting the puck to the net, so all you need to do is clog up the middle down low and focus on the forwards. The top 6 guys have scored 75% of their goals. Top 7 have scored 79% of their goals. From a scoring perspective we need the bottom of the line up to pick it the heck up.

Expecting a coach, who spent his career as a cement head, to have any concept of offensive schemes is like asking a dog to explain string theory. Wont happen. It's time for Coach Q..
Look at the minutes Reilly gets on the pp, yet nothing.

Yeah. I don't want to face Ottawa in the playoffs.
There is some kind of matchup issue with vs Ottawa...
Leafs now lost 5 of the last 6 vs Ottawa, being outscored 23-13

Ottawa, Caroline, and Florida are the 3 teams they need to stay away from in the playoffs. The Leafs just don't match up well with any of them.

It's not an on ice matchup issue. Perhaps a mental matchup issue, if anything.

This is the main factor in the lack of growth from this core. Lack of accountability. Between the in season and end of season pressers, it is clear the guys that matter do not take ownership of any of the failures of this team.

So close. Bouces. Luck. Goaltending. On and on... Never, I will be better.

A lot of Garbage stuff that normal people shun.

Hmm interesting

EDIT* Found what he says he plays. Or said what he said the mix mainly consists of, from a quote last year I think. (If that’s what you’re referencing) Not sure why that would make you lose respect for him? Considering who he is.. but to each their own lmao!

So is Berube going with one line vs Minny or is he going to try to have the 3 amigos drive their own lines? Kaprizov is back and Minny has a goalie, unlike the Sens and CBJ and they scored 1 goal against both teams.

What really makes me mad is that we have no assets to trade to get help. You'd think we have won a couple of Stanley Cups with how bare our cupboard is. But the cupboards were emptied for 1 playoff series win. One. We have nothing. What do we expect to trade in order to get a legit centre?
They have trade assets, the problem is management seems to be like HFboards were we over hype our prospects and value of picks. Pay the price and address needs. They have 2026 first plus blue chip prospects in Cowan, Minten, Danforth. That's more then enough to fill some needs.

Anyways, a lot of over reaction in this thread and a lot user names I haven't seen in some time. Step off the ledge and breath. I think a bunch of you are forgetting our 4th line was our 3rd line and our 4th line was a AHL line.. They have 4 players in the lineup right that shouldn't be there. They are missing 3 top 9 forwards.
