One of those games. What did we hit, 4 posts? If Marner would have scored on the first might have been a different game. Muzzin and Holl were not good all game and Muzzin continues to pinch and be caught out of position. Coach lost this one. Ritchie is not a first liner and Kase while healthy is not a third liner. Put Tavares with Marner for goodness sake. No reason to have switched them. Spezza should be on the first pp.

On the positive side, I believe we have a true No 1 goalie in Campbell. Our 4th line was great. We need another 2 Brodie’s and Rielly’s.

That's cherrypicking a random game, though. The leafs had 4 games like this recently where they found a way to pull it out. Now in the one they didn't you're here saying "same old Toronto"

Of course they have issues, but the PP/tight checking games haven't been ones for them. In fact, the PP had like 10 goals in 10 games heading into tonight lol
well, he's a Caps fan who hates the Leafs and is only here to troll. I'm not really sure why that's allowed, but whatever

How could this team not create any space with a 5 on 3? I don't get it.

From what I have watched, it's because they refuse to outwork the opponent. More than once on the last couple 5-on-3's all 5 of the Leafs players were literally standing still... like not moving an inch. It's effing pathetic the level of arrogance this group has (in general) when it comes to understanding that all they have to do is at least match the opponents intensity level and THEN the skill will make the difference.

They have seemingly bought in... and 2 losses in 10 is not much to gripe about... but there are underlying things that keep coming back. I actually thought the effort level was decent tonight in the offensive zone, but they were (sort of) working hard doing nothing most of the night, other than the 3rd line. And it appeared to me, especially in the defensive and neutral zone, that when they couldn't do things the easy way, they just started making stupid play after stupid play... all while usually standing still; rather than bearing down and being hard on the puck and getting it deep in the PIT zone and working from there. A very lazy effort in those two zones. Specifically in our defensive zone, all PIT had to do was apply a little pressure and 4 of our D-men essentially had meltdowns every time they touched the puck, now a portion of that was on the forwards for not being in useful supportive positions.

Anyway, I guess it's one game with a bunch of stuff not working at the same time... lets see what they bring tomorrow and then we can either brush this off, or see if it means more than just a one game mail-in.

Campbell gave the team a legit chance to win.

3 2-1 games in a 10 game span isn't "learning". learning is doing that when it matters, aka the playoffs

this game reminded me way too much of games 5-7 vs. MTL from last year

If only the playoffs matter, why are you choosing a 1 game sample size in the regular season? Like what

Btw, they've also had two 3-0 shutouts in that span, but I guess those must not count

Not good enough but then again, Pittsburg always kicks the Leafs asses. Never fails.

This was a playoff style game played by the Penguins. They were blocking everything and were right on top of us the whole game. Leafs haven't been able to grind out goals when teams play that way. It's tough.

They beat Tampa and Boston during that run among others. Serious smooth-braining going on in here tonight.

They’ve played like 7 or 8 games against playoff teams. That doesn’t mean they have had some impressive wins so far, but it does mean they’ve had a weaker schedule than average.

1st period:
Sandin had a brutal shift. He bit on a fake to the outside allowing Guentzel free space into the slot that finished with the first goal. Same shift after the goal he had terrible giveaway leading to another great chance.
Leafs got away with a blatant too many with Matthews jumping on while there were still 3 forwards in the offensive zone.
Rielly made a great defensive play lifting the pen forward's stick, definitely wasn't a penalty. It really bugs me when players get penalties making really nice defensive plays.
3rd period:
Engvall's shot off the post wouldn't have counted as the play was probably offside. The linesmen missed a bunch of stuff during this game.

You have to beat the teams that are on your schedule. They've done that in 10 of the last 12 games.

I know you cheer for them to lose so cheers to you tonight. This must be very exciting for you. Finally a night to hang your hat on.

Insert response about how he doesn't cheer against the team, he just doesn't celebrate every move that the GM makes.

As if to say that people being happy about winning games 100% approve of every move that teams GM makes.

Yes, it's not their fault they haven't had to play a tough schedule. That doesn't mean you ignore the level of competition.

When I'm watching a movie that I don't like, I turn it off. I don't go online and cry about it for years on end.

Maybe you should reconsider how you spend your time.

You'
ve got it milord. The wise ones know, it's about experience.

We will win again, soon. 10 out of 12 is like twelve angry men.. that movie. Film to be exact. All great films are films. Mot movies.

But yeah, ... Ritchies' point and goal stats are ridiculous, I don't like those, but other than that, we thuggin and moving. Hard.

I've been a Leaf fan my whole life, and I enjoy watching all hockey.

Discussion and debate isn't exactly the same as crying. Sometimes I'm right. Sometimes I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong about this team.
