Giordano would be right at home in Toronto, seeing as he's never played in the second round.

on the fan 590 today Seravall said that has of now Mark Giordano nwould prefer to be traded to Toronto,, he doesnt have a full no move so he can not strong arm seattle into trading him to Toronto but he ndoes have a partial NTC so he does have some say in where he goes.

Frank also mentioned the Canes but I cant see that happening since Carolina fired Francis and I am not sure how willing nhe is to help them out.

We do know that Dubas and Francis are close so I could see this deal getting done and if it does that would be a hell of a left side once Muzzin gets healthy.

Rielly Muzzin Giordano on LD is pretty good

then you have Brodie on the right after that it gets a little weaker but the overall depth would be prety good

Rielly
Brodie
Muzzin
Giordano
Sandin
Holl
Dermott
Lubshkin
Lilly

thats not bad depth on the defense

even if one of those guys are involved in the deal thats a solid amount of defensive depth

I would be very happy with that if they could find a goalie that could make a save.

If he wanted to be difficult he could make his 12 team NTC every non-Toronto contender that's in the market for defense.
He could sure. But Gio has already come out and said that he trusts Francis to do the right thing and didn't even give him a list. I am pretty sure there is still consultation going on, but Francis does not really owe Gio anything. He needs to set the team on the right track and should be making a business decision. Not an emotional/sentimental one for a player who has been on the team for not even 1 full season.

Not saying that Francis does that actually, but it would be a poor look if he gets a crap return.

All he'd need is to put the non playoff teams on there. Most partial NTCs basically functions as full ones, it seems.

The only snag that I dont know of is whether they need to get their lists done in the summer. Can they update the list regularly?

Back on the Lindholm topic. Can we just get this done with Boston? 22’ first + Lysell + 23’ second. Done deal it matches what Anaheims GM is asking. Boston? What do you say

Taking less from another team in a different conference out of spite is too childish to believe.

relationships matter and by the sounds of it he does not have a good one with the people running Carolina which is understandable I'm not sure you wouldnt be egar to help out your former boss that fired you either

It isn’t strictly helping them out, it’s helping Seattle out as well. If Carolina makes the best offer it would be stupid not to take it for his own personal reasons. He has to keep Seattle’s best interests in mind, not his own.

Exactly. I mean, bending over backwards to appease a player OR trying to spite your previous organization makes no business sense. At the end of the day, what he needs to do is best for Seattle. That is what people will judge him on now and going forward.

If the desire is to dismiss Giordano to Carolina, go with the general heuristic of the team that needs something more will pay more for it.

Carolina needs a defenseman to platoon with DeAngelo depending on the game situation. Toronto appears to need, or at least want, a defenseman for its Top 4.

I'll pay a 2nd + a small add. Wouldn't give the 1st for Gio, but I do think he would fit nicely and he can still play.

Gio-Brodie
Rielly-Lyubushkin
Muzzin-Sandin/Liljegren

Not a bad D core.

Lol you’re welcome. I made this my username in frustration after Montreal embarrassed them in the playoffs. But what I said is true.
Ah,I know how you felt/feel. Gio would be OK on the bottom pairing and PK. He's 38 yo with something like 1.5 left on this years contract. Giordano is a smart player but not quick, not the big bruiser people probably want. If it doesn't cost much I would do it for depth and a backup plan if Muzzin can't return. Maybe a Hatfield or Middleton would suit better.

i dont know about not owing Gio anything, I mean he was the first captain and face of the franchise, that has to mean something even if it was a short term thing.

I think he will try to make it work with Toronto if that is what Giordano really wants.

maybe it doesnt maybe he has to go somewhere else but if the top priority for Giordano is Toronto then I think he is going to try to make it work with Toronto njust like Carolina did for him in 2004 when he was in the exact same position as Gio is now.

Pretty much all cup winners have made deadline moves? Tampa has traded like three 1sts or equivalent the last couple years to win?
Perhaps the Leafs are sellers really, and should not be wasting 1st round picks.

“Kneeordano” has a bit more bite than people think. He hits blocks shots and defends.

Yes. It is of sentimental importance that Gio was our 1st captain. But that is where it ends. This should not affect the business decision behind maximizing the value from the trade. Our season has been a disaster and there are lot of folks who have criticized Gio for his expansion draft choices. If he were to screw up the chance to get the best return for Gio, I am pretty sure ownership would not really enjoy it.
