Anyone else remember when this team used to be fun to watch? They used to skate and make plays 2-3 years ago. WTF is this shit now? like has anyone stopped to think about this?

They lost Hyman, Kapanen, Johnsson, Brown. The leadership of the team was guys like Marleau and Hainsey. Those contracts would only have worked with a growing cap, with a flat cap the Leafs lost all their depth/ability to replace them. Leafs are currently icing like 4 players who wouldn’t have cracked their 2019 roster.

I think from now on, a must for all Leafs draft picks is shooting skills. IF they don't have a shot, nomatter how good their IQs, skatings, passing, physical....it won't matters.

The eye test is filled with personal bias. All humans have it. Advanced stats are supposed to help fill the gaps bias creates. The problem is when people then assume that advanced stats are also the be all and end all.

How much personal bias? Can we measure how error-prone it is? Is it like 5% error-prone? 10%?

Most expected goals models only show a moderate-to-weak correlation with what it's attempting to describe.

Even if personal biases affect assessment slightly, it's still a whole heck of a lot better than the who-shoots-the-puck-closer-to-the-net blogger stat models we constantly see copy and pasted.

Carolina plays so well defensively that the usual Leafs play hard for the last 10 minutes of the game is likely going nowhere.
