If you rely solely on either advanced stats or the eye test sure it's a problem. They are meant to simply tell you whether or not a player/team is playing well or not. In most cases usually the Stanley Cup Winner has very good underlying possession metrics fyi, so they're not useless.

You don't need to use "advanced" stats to see that the cup winning team is good. Their play and the fact they win is proof enough.

To many posters on the Leafs boards act like corsi and xgf are all that matter when they mean absolutely nothing to the final score.

I have no issue with new hockey fans or people who have a weak grasp of hockey. But don't come here and tell us how things work when the results show that you are clearly wrong.

No "advanced" stats can accurately measure what's happening in hockey. There are far to many variables. This isn't baseball.

I mean, Matthews is clearly a star, but to me he is tradeable at the right price. He got given the entire farm without commitment to the team. Something about him is irking me too.
It may be the slump talking but he hasn't accomplished much in the playoffs either.

He is playing on arguably the softest team in the league that is also being told to play soft if you watch their style. They need to overhaul everything around him and change the entire philosophy, with him here.

No the point of advanced stats is to enhance your understanding of the game. There is far too much happening on the ice at once to get the full picture with the eye test.

There is obviously zero consideration of passion, hate-to-lose, self sacrifice, pride, got-your-back, and indominable will in Dubas' woke stats pak from Apple.
