It seems the posters relying more on the eye test and logic have been far more correct regarding this team than the "advanced" stats crowd.

I've been told for 3 years now that dubas has assembled an amazing team based on fancy stats. They've even told me I'm not a real leaf fan for doubting dubas.

Yet after 3 years we are still looking for a single playoff series win.

Those posters couldn't have been more wrong if they tried. It has become clear that they have no credibility.

Problem with advanced stats is the word advanced. They aren't.

They are just different stats.

Nothing advanced about them...or those who follow them.

If you rely solely on either advanced stats or the eye test sure it's a problem. They are meant to simply tell you whether or not a player/team is playing well or not. In most cases usually the Stanley Cup Winner has very good underlying possession metrics fyi, so they're not useless.

The eye test is filled with personal bias. All humans have it. Advanced stats are supposed to help fill the gaps bias creates. The problem is when people then assume that advanced stats are also the be all and end all.
