No extension for Keefe yet?

Tick tock.

People are actually hoping this team stumbles so bad, that we replace the coach? I mean, actively hoping the team starts really badly?

I can get not liking Keefe, but to hope the team sucks so bad we replace him in the middle of the season? Personally, I would have replaced Keefe in the offseason, but given that isn't going to happen, I would have thought most Leafs fans would be cheering for him to succeed, with the support of the very good new assistants.

Then again, I've never understood why fans hope their team fails... except in rebuilds.

People are doing that?

Nice. I guess Treliving wanted to add more snot behind the bench as well.

If they plan on firing Keefe they should already have done it do the team gets a whole camp to learn a new system. Since they aren't we gotta ride it out with him unless we start like 0-10 or something.

I still think he's a pretty good coach despite being overwhelmed in the playoffs over the years, but I would still have replaced him with a Quennville if he was reinstated. I don't mind Keefe as of today though.

I said the same thing towards babcocks tenure when Trotz was available. I knew Babcocks time was running out and I thought, if your gonna fire him, fire him now while there's a great coach available. With no coach out there like that currently, were better off with Keefe imo.

Guy Boucher is still relatively young for an NHL coach (52). I'm not interviewing him for this position with the Leafs but I'm wondering what he's been up to for the past 5 hockey seasons. That's a long time away from hockey. His first season in Tampa Bay and his first season in Ottawa were both big splashes. So was his first season in the AHL. Perhaps he brings in novel innovations then eventually the league adjusts.

I remember Mike Van Ryn as the oft-concussed salary dump in the Bryan McCabe deal with Florida. He was a talented defenseman but did not protect himself from the big forecheck hit. That Tom Kostopoulos hit was pretty much the end of his career.

You are confusing actively hoping Keefe fails with being happy that their are people that can finally put some heat on him.

I for example don't want to see him fail, but You're damn right I'm happy with a former NHL assistant coach as the New AHL head coach.

Keefe needs to be held accountable and that's happening now and that's a good thing.

My post may be triggering to some but it is what it is....

I also want to preface by saying i have left no stone unturned when criticizing keefe's coaching abilities

but part of me now says... "lets see how he does with another GM who isn't forcing the coach to play certain guys"

the reasoning behind my latter position is that there were reports that dubas was meddling in line up decisions, lines/pairs and who should play and how much. The reports are obviously not based on any quotes from anyone attached to coaching staff or player personnel; its run of the mill media speculation.

One way or another we will find out when the season begins anyway...

I think it was more a reference to people saying things like “So, Boucher will be coach by Christmas.”

What post are you reading?

Big assumptions on your part!

Stamkos-St. Louis were at their best under Boucher.

MSL is a freakin beast. The amount of offseason effort he put into getting ready was unheard off before. MSL would also ask why this way and not that way to his coaches all the time.

small guy never respected and always passed over; what a story for him man.

speaking about stories: its been amazing stories for Messi and Eichel too lol

Like has been mentioned: If Keefe gets fired in season, the team is probably playing crappy....Team should be winning on paper and Keefe has always had them playing well in season so probably won't get fired till next spring.

That said, maybe Keefe can get a promotion to eye in the sky and can work on his zone entry schemes from up top......

Even that's not hoping he fails, that could be the case, I doubt it because there is to much talent on this team, but If injury hits that could be the case

Posters wishing to see the team fail to get a coaching change ain't any different than what was going on with Babcock's final season with the team.

Anyways, HFBoards' posters aren't magicians. Their wishes can't conjure up bad juju on the team like a Brady Bunch tiki idol. We are merely observers.

I mean they are in this thread..

So we figure Boucher is head coach by Xmas?

or Twitter

If he's still coaching the Leafs by January, I'll be amazed.

Let’s hope he’s gone before the playoffs

I think you're confusing some things. I'm not one of them but a lot of fans aren't cheering for this team to lose. They simply do not believe they can win with Keefe. The only way they believe the team can win the ultimate prize, is with a different head coach leading the team. How do you get a new head coach ? You fire your current one. Is your current coach having a good or bad regular season ? Good season = no firing, no coaching change, no ultimate success. Bad season = fire the coach and bring in the guy they believe can lead this team to the promised land.

They're not cheering for this team to lose, they want change because they've lost faith in the current group. The only way they'll get the change they desire is if Keefe has a down season.

People seem to be rooting for him to get fired, not for him to succeed.

Successful coaches don't usually get fired.
We have seen him succeed during the regular season and some of us don’t want to wait until he stumbles and bumbles through another wasted playoff year.
