Van Ryn and McCabe (and Fletcher) finally together on the Leafs! :sarcasm: ;)

Guy Boucher brings the previous experience as a head coach (that went to the Conference Finals) x2 and Mike Van Ryn has a Cup win to his credit as an assistant. Should end up being a couple of solid hires.

I'm wondering If this is the end of the coaching hires.

Most teams don't just have assistant coaches they also have an associate coach.

For example when Boucher was the head coach in Ottawa Marc Crawford was the associate coach, not an assistant coach.

Boucher and Van Ryn are assistant coaches neither is the associate coach.

As far as I'm aware the Leafs don't yet have an associate coach.

So I'm wondering If they are done with the coaching staff or do they hire an associate coach thus putting more heat on Keefe

I don't think there's any formal significance to the "associate" coach title. Some teams use it to denote a hierarchy among the assistant coachs, others don't (currently seven teams have associate coaches). As far as I can remember, the Leafs have not used the title associate coach in recent history.

So we figure Boucher is head coach by Xmas?

Highly doubt they fire a coach who will likely have a top team in the league.

If they were going to fire him off playoff success, that ship has sailed.

Also, crazy that they'd fire him for the playoffs when I read all summer how big of losers our whole team is. He was set up for failure.
