not sure where to find the stats for it, but I’m fairly sure they did a lot better in the blocked shots department. Two screened seeing eye shots for them, whereas it felt we had a bit of trouble getting shots through.

No Bro-Mo. Put that on a jersey.
More like: No Mo Bro.

If Niemela isn't ready for a look (and a boost to the D-esprit de corps) bring Rifai or Miller up for a cup and sit Brodie for a spell. Resets can be effective, and I think it's plain to see he needs rest...

...Oh, and to be on another team next year.

I got about 4 mins into the second and it just didn't seem worth watching.

One things for sure though, do they ever miss Mitch, the PP was atrocious and the 1 line looked like horseshit. No drive, no intensity and no real great playmaker in sight to set up the shot which is the way that line score the vast majority of its goals

How in the world did JT scoop 3 points? And why is TJ still dressing?

That's because there's never been a Leafs team that's played such uninspiring NHL hockey as this group. Ever.

Started watching the Leafs back in the early 80's and they've never been a talented group but have always been a lunch bucket team when it came to hustle and effort.

This group is talented but lazy and only seem to give an effort when it's time to cash in on their next contract
I don't know if it's lazy so much as being occasionally confused and timid at the worst possible moments, that is, when it's vital not to be confused and/or timid.

And I wonder it that's a function of the coach's style trickling down to the group, or the group advising the coach as to what they'll respond to...But I don't know if it's them being lazy, which I'd prefer to indifference.

If it's indifference, then we've got a tragedy on our hands and we're all suckers.

It's weird that hitting a goal post isn't a shot on goal, when it's literally ON the goal. If it was the Leafs would have had 97 shots on goal tonight. Frustrating night. Benoit has to stay in the lineup. Still not sold on Sammy. I appreciate Marner but we miss him more than I expected.

Sammy let's in 4 goals a game, guaranteed. Easy goals, terrific saves, blah blah blah, he let's in 4 goals game. Period.
And though I've certainly picked up for him, is it me or has his body language after goals gotten worse recently?

Torts teams usually are shot blocking machines

When is game 1

This season is going to drag on for the next month. Let's just hurry up and get to the disappointment already

Gotta do a system detox before the "real" games begin

have about a month......... LOL

Has 13 in his last 21.

I was thinking since Oshie is back that would give caps some offensive boost and that would mean more goals for ovi

Oshie is pretty much done. He is still effective on the PP at the bumper position but is always injured now. The Caps younger players like Lapierre and Miroshnichenko is what has helped the team most post TDL.

Could also see Ryan Leonard make the jump next season too. Cristall looks promising too.

My understanding is that Parros and the DOPS are going to review and then schedule a call with Keefe for the aggressive manner in which the Leafs hit the goal posts all night.

Fine and suspension to be announced shortly……

“In an unprecedented decision, DoPS has fired Sheldon Keefe from the Toronto Maple Leafs for his actions against the Flyers on March 19. Leafs fans seen pouring onto the streets dancing.”

It’s a shame this team is so poorly coached.. Imagine this team with a Montgomery, Cassidy, Cooper, Brind Amour.
It’s a shame that a iconic premier franchise like the maple leafs, the most powerful, profitable and lucrative in the nhl, can’t even bother to hire NHL level coaches. I mean the Leafs/MLSE literally print money, I mean they are the most popular NHL team located in the biggest city of a hockey mad nation. Expansion franchises can hire good coaches. Sunbelt teams can hire good coaches Poorer Franchises than us can hire good coaches. But the mighty and wealthy maple leafs can’t?

A lot are probably over reacting because we didn't look awful. The Flyers just played a playoff kind of defensive game where they shut down the slot area and blocked everything. We had a lot of chances that should've been goals but either hit the post or got blocked so it's not like we had no chance to win this game. 2 of their goals shouldn't happen but it did and they were the difference. PP still sucked and the PK didn't give up any PP goals so there's that.

I thought the Flyers coaches and background staff did an excellent pre scout and they executed.

Right from the start - Sanheim takes away the wall in the NZ and they know the Leafs don't use the bypass, we try to make plays more often than not. In the zone the Flyers knew they could have some patience in the lower quadrant and could get pucks to the point with Leaf wingers trapped in no mans land. Flyers had that plan.

What you can't account for is the pathetic work from Rielly and Brodie with full control of the puck to start P2.. That stuff will kill you. They are atrocious as a pair.. clearly..objectively awful. Brodie is markedly better on the left side so if you are going to bother playing him at all... it needs to be there.

The shot block story is there as well.. 36-9.. not that you want to spend your night blocking shots but two pucks made it by blocks and went in our net. Edmundson is here for that and could not square up on Tippett.

First goal ... less than a minute in game
Second goal ... less than a minute into 2nd. period

Just not ready, and not enough desire to win the battles.

Morgan Rielly and TJ Brodie completely self destruct with very little pressure against them. Seriously, not exaggerating, but AHL defenders could have done a better job. A complete disaster pairing that surprises no one. Again, honest evaluation, they stink together.

Rielly had his rally the troops on that suspension he took vs Ottawa but as a player he can be very unreliable. Such an unusual mix of "heart and soul" guy and flat out liability.

For almost 10 years we've talked about having a defense partner to play with Morgan and it's always who can support him. I've come to think to make it really work on the top pair you need someone at a Charlie McAvoy and make him the weak partner.

Brodie is just flat out toast. I have no idea what kind of nonsense was going on in his mind with the fake reversal wind up and then just batting the puck around like it was deflated.
