Bozak continues to be the most underrated Leaf. Outside of his sophomore slump, all the guy has done is improve and produce in Toronto. Great game by him, in both ends.

This is stupid..... a slow non athletic goaltender we hadd not too long ago won the conn smythe.
Good game last night! Kadri, Komarov, and Kessel looked good out there. Scrivens kinda had me worried sometimes. He needs to control his rebounds more. I also agree with Kevin Weekes about Scrivens' glove. I don't like it either. The Habs were focusing on it all night.
Totally agree. Wasn't a big fan of his at first (granted it was quite the challenge to be given the #1 C job) but he has really developed into a solid player.

That was a very satisfying win and all the young guys, that played last night from the Marlies, did exceptionally well.
I'm not a fan of sitting back when we get the lead and if it was part of the plan or just the players letting their foot off the gas, I hope they stop, Kitty Bar the Door, IMO doesn't work and can get you in a lot of trouble, Last nights game should never have come down to a 1 goal win, if Montreal had scored another goal and tied it, I wonder what our chances would have been, in a shootout, with Price in their goal and Scrivens in ours.

Grabovski and Kulemin had bad games but there's also some things to consider.
They went from the KHL straight to a tough training camp without any time to rest. Likely a mix of fatigue and jet lag could have been a reason for their poor play.
Not an excuse but maybe an explanation.
They have a full day off so hopefully that helps them out.

I'm starting to wonder if what we saw from Kulemin last night is unfortunately going to be the norm. Nothing he did last season makes me that optimistic that this year is going to be any different.
I have seen that penalty on occasion. The snowing of Scrivens last night was totally uncalled for, Habs player did it because he thought Scrivens could have kept the puck in play. It is a nasty thing to do, happy the ref called the penalty.
The no-goal was definitly a no-goal. Scrivens was pushed in the net...always frustrates me when goaltenders are interfered with and the call is not made.
I hope it isn't. We need him to score, or he's bolting to the Pens where he'll likely get more money and the chemistry with Malkin.

And I saw MacArthur standing around in the offensive zone for what seemed like an eternity, like his brain was frozen long after the puck was gone.
Third period looked like same old Leafs. Girly style, losing all the battles, panic mode. I don't think much of anything has changed but liked the play of Kostka, Komarov, Mcclement, Kadri and Liles. Rest of them looked pretty crappy.
- Komarov is beasting! He'll only get better as he adjusts
- Kadri had an overall good game. Played just under 10 minutes but made every minute count and was dangerous every time he was out there
- Liles was great defensively. Such speed and hustle!
- Kessel was great! Showed some great vision on some of his passes, and what's there not to like about his bursts of speed. Seemed to catch Montreal players off guard a couple of times and created some good scoring opportunities
- Kuli looked lost offensively (that whole line did until their last shift), but was solid defensively. Lots of praise for McClement for his PK job, but Kuli was no slouch beside him on the PK unit
- Komi and Gunnar were sliently effective
- Scrivens looked very shaky at times, but kept the puck out when it mattered

All we heard last year was how "at least he's still bringing other things to the table other than offense", which I didn't agree with anyways. He was garbage last year in all facets of the game, and I'm a huge Kulemin fan. If he plays like he did when he was paired with Bozak and Kessel, and Grabovski and MacArthur the one year, he's a fantastic player in both ends of the rink, but we haven't seen that Kulemin in a long time, and he just looks like he's skating in quicksand out there all the time now.

I agree, I didn't see anything too bad around our net and the instances that did occur, a goal was called back and a penalty called.
I do think the league, is cracking down on Goal Tender interference because of all the injuries, that have happened in the past and calling a penalty on the snow spraying, is evidence of that.
This ^ the Leafs also looked like garbage. And so i turned most of the game off after yet another embarrassing Coach's Corner for Don Cherry. What a joke Gary Bettman's watered down 30 team NHL is. The Habs legends come out with the torch and then they introduce the worst Habs team in NHL history lol. Watching that crap last night i would have preferred the lockout continued for another 3 years which would have killed off 10 teams in the crappy money losing markets and left us with a far superior 20 team NHL.
If the Leafs play like they did last night vs that god awful Habs team against the better teams in the east we are going to get smoked. The Islanders Canadiens & Leafs will all battle it out for last place in the Eastern Conference. Why the Canadiens rehired Therrien is beyond me his stacked Pens teams became so lackluster and boring to watch he got fired and last nights Habs effort was atrocious and well deserving of the boos. I was actually hoping the NHLPA foolish whiners would have voted against the deal they ain't worth the money they are paid so many scrubs lol.
Both NFL games today will be awesome and well worth watching unlike last nights NHL Leafs vs Habs debacle.
This can't be right. Because I know kessel did have a hit. Believe it was the first period and he threw a hit when he was 1 on 3 in the corners. I remember so clearly because I was so surprised lol
I kept watching number 21 jvr a lot while he didn't have the puck and looked gassed and very slow at times.
The entire game just seemed out of sync. Hard to read into the first game in a season like this (with no real training camp/exhibition schedule). I actually looked like an exhibition game.
Either way, I'll take the win. Good signs from some, others need to pick it up - it's early.
