Fire the GM who just acquired the player for pennies on the dollar 24 hours earlier seems kinda harsh doesn't it?

Ask yourself. Would you rather lose to Seattle
Dermott
Holl
Kerfoot
Hallinder and a 7th?
Kerfoot…. By a country mile.

I don't understand your complaint here. It's an expansion draft, the Leafs will be losing an asset of value regardless

leafs would have lost either kerfoot/dermott and gained cap space then re-evaluate

now....

leafs have already lost 2nd (hallander) + 7th AND they will lose the asset for expansion draft

leafs are already asset poor and they just became more asset poor because of dubas. leafs are never going to compete for the cup anyway due to cap constraints and the 50% allocationo f cap to the 4 players. throwing away assets is stupid.

going with bargain bin players in ufa market was more logicial than throwing away picks/prospects. jsut FYI this cap hell is self constrcuted by dubas no one else to blame but dubas

dermott is not a smart player, can he pitch in on a top 4? Maybe. he just isn’t smart enough to be a consistent top 4 dman. We have 2 better LHD right now. So many brain dead plays, like his patented spin o Rama that always leads to nothing.

dermott gets pretty overrated on here

I'm not a Dermott fan and recognize his limitations, but also recognize Holl looks good from far, but far from good and wouldn't really be a top 4 dman on Cup competitive team and really a 3rd pairing guy.

So I see them both as 3rd pairing players only one is 5 years younger and cheaper.

Hallander and a 7th is not nothing!

In comparison to losing Kerfoot and Dermott for nothing. It is a much smaller blow in my opinion.

Hallander was about 9th on our prospect ranking, he became easily expendable with the like of Amirov, Robertson, Hirvonen and strong seasons from Miettinen, Holmberg, Abramov and Abbruzzese (2020 season). And a 2023 7th has minimal value. One of the lowest value tradeable assets other than future considerations.

When it comes down to it, losing Mccann would essentially be like only losing Hallander and a 7th. I'd much rather lose that than creating a large hole at 3c by losing Kerfoot (Mccann is better at the wing than at center), or losing a guy like Dermott who could later be traded for picks.

I'm presuming we must have some sort of a side deal worked out

Because I'd be extremely surprised if we gave up Hallander and a 7th for McCann just to keep guys like Dermott or Kerfoot

I hope I'm right because if I'm wrong somebody should be fired

It means they're now guaranteed to keep at least 1 comparable player between McCann/Kerfoot to be their top 6 LW or 3C when before the trade they may have ended up with no forward at that level. Or now they keep both and the Kraken take Dermott.

The Leafs current situation is a better one than they were before the McCann trade. There's no escaping an asset loss in an expansion draft.

I personally expect no trades, and that Seattle takes Kerfoot.

We'll have to find a 3c via FA.

This poster is completely lost.

btw i forgot which division/conference will seattle be in? looks like they are shaping up to be a solid team

The worst division in the league.

The pacific - Edmonton, Calgary, Vegas, California teams and Vancouver.

Vegas is a top contender, Edmonton is alright, the rest is bottom tier fodder.

This. Perfectly explained.

Once again I'm not exactly sure what's so hard to understand about all this.

you aren’t comparing players who play the same position though. RHD is harder to find due to lack of them, so holl maybe a bottom pair rhd but is capable of playing top4 rhd.

If you want to compare dermott to his competition then let’s, who you taking dermott or rielly now dermott of muzzin? I don’t want to hear dermott can play right side, because he can’t you have to be a smart hockey player to play off side and he’s barely smart enough to play his natural side

So they're giving Seattle the choice between Kerf or McCann, instead of Dermott or Holl.

I'm shocked. But hey, what can you do.

He plays much better when he doesn't try to be a player he is not. When he simplifies his game and cuts out the extra wiggle and ziggle he's not bad. It's breaking him of the habit to try that 'extra' move or jumping up to the other teams blueline to disrupt a breakout when its an odd man rush. Stuff like that plagues him and I don't know if he will finally realize he will never be an offensive D man in this league. He got points in Eerie playing with McDavid...we now realize that because he offers you Roman Polak type offense.
