It’s crazy how much a plug like Franson would open up the offense, I really don’t understand why it’s seemingly impossible to get a consistent point shot on the blueline.

The point shot also has to be able to facilitate the puck.

I still think Marner is the best option we have on the point for the PP/6 on 5.

It'd definitely be nice to bring in an offensive minded D with a shot though, we desperately need offense.

We went like 8-2 and Marner put up nearly 2ppg during that stretch.
But I’m sure we would have went 10-0 if Nylander played with Tavares and Marner played the best of what was left….

Now if you want an honest justification on why that was the right idea when we were that short handed, Marner being a pass first player is most effective with decent players to pass to and Willy is better at producing offensive completely on his own.
It checks out that 5v5 Tavares and Marners xgf is like 1.9xf vs 1.8 xga. Tavares scored because hes an incredible goal scorer but has nothing to do with Marner. Tavares has scored with anyone hes played with.

Honestly I don’t really care if they can facilitate or not. Tavares, Knies, Matthews, Pacioretty, and to a lesser extent Nylander thrive off tips, rebounds, and broken scrambles in front of the net. Even Marner is good at cleaning those up even if it’s not his main wheelhouse. Just get shots to the net and bouncing off pads. I could live with Rielly and Marner’s 14 year old girl shot power if they could reliably get them on net at least, the problem is they miss and clear the zone off the boards or they hit a shin pad and cause an odd man rush the other way.

The magic of the Franson half clapper was that it got on net 99% of the time and was just hard enough to bounce out 5 feet into the slot but not so far that it risked a turnover.

Ya, I don't disagree... I honestly think Marner could be that person, but we disagree there.

I would have liked Ghost, but not sure who else has been available that can do this.

I think Nylander has been fine... overall.

And if Domi can deliver in the playoffs then I guess it is worth it.

Optimistic outlook there, but Domi has been basically a waste of a roster spot so far.
Domi is a supplement player, he cant lead a line like AM, MM and Willie.

Personally, I would try the following lines

Knies-AM-Domi
McMann-JT-MM
Max-Minten-Willie

And which ever lines playing good will get more ice time that night.

Also use JT’s line as the matchup line. Willie’s line will be more sheltered due to Minten being the C.
AM’s line should just dominate

I was going through the standings the other day and we have the 5th lowest goals for in the eastern conference. Scary problem to have really, I know Berubes system is more defensive but we need to have three lines capable of putting it into the back of the net once the post season comes along.

Since reuniting Matthews and Marner in the Nashville game the Leafs have scored more than 2 goals just once in five games. I don’t know why every f***ing coach is allergic to splitting up the big three on their own lines but it needs to be done. Who cares if they don’t like it? Remind them all that they’re making well over $10 million a year and give the guy on the third line extra PP time. And it’s not like they can’t double shift here and there.

Great at home but a sub .500 team on the road.
Domi was absolutely horrible tonight.
Matthews looks disinterested.

At times this looks like a very average playoff team saved by great goaltending. Woll didn't steal it for them tonight, so they lose.

Berube has to get some depth out of the line up .. Marner has been doing well with JT lately. Domi needs to get going.
Great post and lineup changes.

Marner with Matthews just makes us too one-dimensional offensively and makes Matthews lazy.

Not a coincidence that Marner was lights out when Matthews was out, and our team play as a whole has been pure ass since they’ve been reunited.

3 lines that can play and score vs 1 line that can be shut down? Yes please.

This isn’t working. Change it up.

Marner is preferable to Rielly but I’d rather have him closer to the net hunting for rebounds, he’s just not a high end shooter that the territorial tradeoff is worth it.
