I'm fine with rotating Reaves in for a game. Maybe he will be pumped and do something useful. I wish we rotated players more often

One day though fans will realize how a pure enforcer is just absolute useless, but some are still stuck in 1967 when the Leafs won the cup.
Fans don't sign the players.
Enforcers will disappear when Teams stop signing them.

A pure enforcer is useless in todays game, yes if he's playing every single game. I think in situations like this though having a player that's willing to stick up for your team mates is necessary though. Berube seems to agree. Reaves most defiantly shouldn't be in every game, or in the playoffs lineup.

They already have that in spades. He hasn't done it very much if at all. So I don't know why he'd do it now. But maybe this is the game where he makes an impact physically. First of the year?

You lost me then. What do fans need to one day realize?

That enforcers are useless? Do I need to also explain that some fans still love the idea of Reaves and players of his ilk?

With Washington out of action tonight, A win for Toronto would put them in first in the conference... Technically tied, and even more technically, behind, since Washington would have two games in hand.

Still, that would be pretty huge. When was the last time the leafs led the conference this late into a season? My guess is that it was during the 1993-94 season, before the lead they had built up with the 10 game winning streak had faded away. Does anyone know of a time more recent than that?

It's been an odd transformation for sure, he fought last year multiple times and then this year has decided to completely stop. I doubt that it was Keefe telling him to fight and Berube telling him not to fight anymore.

I posted earlier, if Reaves doesn't fight Hathaway tonight or at the very least up his physicality then there's absolutely zero reason for him to wear the blue and white jersey again, he provides nothing else to the team on the ice.

It may have technically happened during the second COVID shortened season because of the stupid Canadian division?

Agreed about the uselessness of an enforcer in today's hockey, particularly one like Reaves who offers zero offence. However, the 1967 Leafs didn't have an enforcer so they can't be stuck there, lol. They did have a lot of team toughness with dudes like Horton, Baun, Pappin, Stanley, etc.

Has he turned down any fights?

You lost me with all this fans stuff. All good though we all wish Reaves would go away. :thumbu:

Well there's no better game to get in your first fight of the season if you're Ryan Reaves

Reaves on the ice for 8 minutes a game, doesn't end up being any deterrent for the other 52 minutes, and it's arguable he doesn't do anything for those 8 minutes. Reaves will never be on the ice with AM, so that's pointless. He will never be on the ice with Pac, so that's pointless.
I will let you keep your simplistic thought. When tiny Max thinks he is the only guy to extract revenge...and Reaves is being paid for that...the team can go downhill fast.

I get why Berube’s doing it but I hate switching out Robertson for Reaves. I really didn’t understand Berube’s quick rush to limit Robertson’s minutes last game either, even putting out Nylander for extra minutes on that line even though Willie did not deserve it at all. Not liking that kind of “accountability”.

Robertson is the master of appearing good on the surface. Lots of clips of him doing a strong backcheck or whatever, but what they miss is he is usually either the guy who gave it up in the first place and he is fixing his mistake, or he gives it away right after that defensive play making all that effort useless.

As he currently stands, he lacks the IQ to make plays happen in the NHL. They all end up in turnovers.

I doubt we see Robertson much in the playoffs, if he is even still here past the deadline. They will acquire someone to push him out of the lineup,

He still has a trade request as far as I know. I'd be surprised to see him here past the deadline one way or another. They'll look at packaging him with assets of some kind.

Honestly dont even care if we lose tonight. Send a message. I expect a physical game.

No he hasn't. The Boston incident with Zadorov....Reaves did in fact go to talk to him, but the linesmen were involved already - what's he supposed to do then....rip the linesman away then try to fight? You have to have a willing opponent to fight, and yes there is a steep decline in that type of player, and we don't know who or how many guys he has asked to have a go that have turned him down. I feel he has let up a bit after the suspension in terms of big hits, but that last stretch of games he played he certainly wasn't a liability, in fact he was rather effective. I have no issue with him playing, be it at a reduced number of games if Berube sees that the proper fit. Do we want to see the complaints are being too soft again?

Also........(not directed at you) not sure what 1967 has to do with enforcers......There certainly weren't many around at that time.

And...not to highjack this thread... I would certainly not have a problem in the summer signing Olivier as he is a UFA - but fighters are bad now????? Now.....where did I park my Triceratops....

Chances are tonight the Flyers dress Deslauriers - so Reaves fights him??? Hathaway surely won't fight Reaves, and unfortunately Flyers get last change. Beyond that......Domi? Benoit? going for Hathaway???

When was the last time the Leafs led the eastern conference?

Historically, the Maple Leafs have not frequently led the Eastern Conference standings late into the season. While they have had strong performances in various seasons, specific data indicating the latest date they led the entire Eastern Conference is not readily available.

It's worth noting that during the 2020–21 NHL season, the Maple Leafs secured the North Division title.

However, leading the entire Eastern Conference late into the season has been a rare achievement in recent history.

Just to test

When was the last time the Raptors led the eastern conference?

The Toronto Raptors last led the Eastern Conference during the 2017–2018 NBA regular season. On April 6, 2018, they secured the number one seed for the first time in franchise history with a 92–73 win over the Indiana Pacers. This victory also set new records for single-season wins at 57 and home wins with 33.

Apparently Deslauriers is injured, so not playing
