Montreal is red hot right now. Maybe Montreal in the 1st round. Who seen that coming as a possibility. A win tomorrow would be big. Don’t think we ever had a 6 point lead on the division in a long time.

Every team in the east still has a reasonable shot at getting into the playoffs. In fact, only about three teams in the west are pretty much done for the season.

Colorado did Toronto a BIG favour tonight beating Florida 3-1.

Toronto has a chance to open up a 6 point lead in the Atlantic if they can beat Philadelphia tomorrow, they can also tie Washington for top spot in the east.

a win tomorrow would be HUGE

We will likely need a nice cushion going into February if we want to win the division. With only one home game and seven on the road, I would expect some kind of drop in point production? Hopefully, they’re no worse than ~.500 during February.

Awful news.

He and Tanev have been so good.

Rouse/Lefevbre good.

There has probably been other pairings but they came to mind first
Can’t forget the legendary Aki Berg-Jyrki Lumme pairing.

That was ELITE and passed all the tests. 👍🏻

McCabe is a loss, no doubt about it. OEL needs to be put back on LHD and let’s see what Rifai and likely Timmins later can do with the opportunity McCabe’s absence will provide.

I don't think any one game will matter all that much. The Leafs are going to win the division pretty comfortably regardless. It could easily be a 10 or 12 point cushion by the end of January as the Leafs again have more home than road games in January (the home/road breakdown will be unbelievably skewed by the end of January).

That seems like it will be extremely tough no?

Leafs have 10 games. If they go 8-2 which I guess is possible, Florida would have to go 5-6 or 4-7 to get that wide of a gap.

It will be 6 points after tonight. Florida spends most of January on the road, with three back-to-backs. The margin will be significant by the end of the month. I think the bigger question will be whether Washington takes a step back in January. They also spend most of January on the road, but the strength of their opponents looks pretty soft in January.

They will come back down to earth. Their underlying numbers are still pretty terrible (somewhat improved over the last month but just modestly) and they've been on a hot shooting streak with Laine coming into the lineup, but even their goaltending is not that good despite the weird hype around Montembeault (dude has a sub .900 sv%...). They can outscore their problems for a bit but I see them falling back down to lottery level again.

Tells what sad state the goaltending in Canada currently is in. Monty is one of the 3 goalies selected to the 4 nations, yikes.

1. Garnet Hathaway.
2. When the Flyers go after Pac tonight you will know why
3. When a cross check puts AM on his knees in front of the net, you will know
4. When Woll gets run, you will know

If this is not time for Reaves, then get rid of him...his music stinks
Reaves on the ice for 8 minutes a game, doesn't end up being any deterrent for the other 52 minutes, and it's arguable he doesn't do anything for those 8 minutes. Reaves will never be on the ice with AM, so that's pointless. He will never be on the ice with Pac, so that's pointless.

Game 42 of the season doesn't matter as much as sending a message to Philly & and rest of the league. If you're going to hurt one of our players, accidental or not, you're going to have to answer for it. Marchand has commented directly on this how Toronto is more of a team then in seasons past, this goes towards that.

This is exactly why you have Reaves, if he's not going to draw into in the lineup and make Hathaway answer for his actions, then there is absolutely zero point in ever playing Reaves again.

Like the McMann and Pacioretty swap.

It isn't Reaves Marchand is referring to, and Reaves didn't play Boston. It was the team as a whole.. Team toughness, and sticking up for each other is important. Playing hard, playing D... ya, that's what Marchand is referring to.

Marchand was saying, wow... look at Toronto, they've got Reaves in the press box...Heck of a message a guy in the press box was sending to Marchand and the Bruins. This idea that Reaves sends any message is beyond ridiculous. How many fights has Reaves been in this year again? (ZERO) How many times has he stood up for a team mate this year? (ZERO) What about last year when our players were injured against Boston... you remember the Boston incident. Did Reaves do anything then? That was a game he played in. The answer is no.

There is no message, there is no deterrent.

Reaves doesn't fight anymore and doesn't hit anymore since he got suspended. This is a game in theory he provides value but he seems to think he is still in the NHL at 37 to collect minuses and talk on the bench? Not sure what he thinks he does.

I get why Berube’s doing it but I hate switching out Robertson for Reaves. I really didn’t understand Berube’s quick rush to limit Robertson’s minutes last game either, even putting out Nylander for extra minutes on that line even though Willie did not deserve it at all. Not liking that kind of “accountability”.

I'm fine with rotating Reaves in for a game. Maybe he will be pumped and do something useful. I wish we rotated players more often

One day though fans will realize how a pure enforcer is just absolute useless, but some are still stuck in 1967 when the Leafs won the cup.

We need to take it easy on Hathaway tonight if we are going to trade for him at the deadline.
