Somebody tell the Leafs that it’s 2019 and not the 1980’s good grief how are they letting in this many goals and against such garbage teams???

This decade is actually worse than the 80s if you look deeper. As bad as the 80s teams were, at least we saw two series wins.

Can't say the same about this decade's teams.

While true, at their best, defenses must respect the shot of one player while having the freedom to cheat with the other.

Not to say that Nylander is some sort of sniper with Rocket Richard aspirations, but he's much more Kucherov than he is Jumbo Joe.

Just before people jump on that analogy, Kucherov is a guy who has a good shot, but is also a great creator and Jumbo Joe is one of the best passers and creators ever who scored 20 goals every year.
That is the sole reason for using those 2, not that I'm comparing either Leaf to Kucherov or Thornton.

Marner's ability to control the puck and quickly find the right pass is unparalleled on this team (next closest is JT, in how quickly he can make the right pass). Nylander has a better shot, but it is not like he's dramatically outshooting Marner this year either by goal rate or shooting percentage. The gap isn't even big throughout there careers. I agree, Nylander has the better shot and shot arsenal. Marner probably shoots from better locations and spots. I mean, they have played 233 (Nylander) and 235 games (Marner) respectively. Marner has more goals and a higher shooting percentage.

We can all be critical of Matthews but all we want to see is that consistent drive, play a little meaner, be solid defensively.

This is exactly it.

It's less about Matthews playing better or not. It's about him being more consistently engaged in the games with a little fire in him.
When he has a fire under his ass, Matthews is Malkin level dominant with his size, skill and skating.

That is not an analogy, that is just plain true.
