This is exactly it.

It's less about Matthews playing better or not. It's about him being more consistently engaged in the games with a little fire in him.
When he has a fire under his ass, Matthews is Malkin level dominant with his size, skill and skating.

That is not an analogy, that is just plain true.

I think he has the talent to be Malkin 2.0

That's why I get so upset with him, he has number 2 overall in the NHL talent, but the drive of a pee wee player at times.

Babcock employs a collapse style system. It works at taking away certain plays but can be a disaster if players are floating.
