Re: Changing lines or losen the reins: it's January. We're 11 points in the playoffs. Babcock has no need to panic, and he's playing the long game. Everyone needs to relax. If Montreal or Ottawa go on a run and start catching up to us or we're still looking this bad in late March, then start pressing the warning buttons. Not now.

Personally, I predict March and April we're going to look unbeatable, and everyone's going to completely forget about the last 2 months, even though Babs will know it'll be the reason for it.

No they didn't. Stevens had BY FAR the worst reputation at the time for hitting people that hard.

It's possible to acknowledge that it was a different time, while saying Stevens STILL pushed it too far.

The really scary thing is that it wasn't just Stevens. The defensive partner would gently guide them into Stevens' hits. The system was designed for it.

Do people not see how the other teams have game planned against the speed of the Leafs? Clog up the neutral zone, box up the middle of the ice, keep our players to the edges...all to neutralize our speed...wow, people think our players could just free-wheel pond hockey style up the middle of the ice at breakneck speed towards their goal and score? Seriously?!

Every time Nylander brings the puck into the O-zone he curls back and looks for the pass.

Would be nice if he tried to take the puck to the net or shoot it for once.

IIRC yes. I’ll have to rewatch it if you think I’ve misinterpreted it.
I think it's a harder play than most want to believe. Him stepping up is the right play, but Simmonds does a good job tying him up and he doesn't get the support he should. Carrick's gap is too big and there's no back pressure from Marner or Bozak.
