Stevens played the same game everyone else did, and wasn't even huge. Lots of players did what he did. Different era.
That was the way the game was played and accepted.
You can add guys like Samuelsson, Kasparitis,Hatcher,Tinordi to the list.
To be a Power forwards you hit, scored and fought, 4th lines had goons.
Right or wrong that's how it was.

Philly isn't giving the Leafs a lot of room to work with out there .. They're clogging up the neutral zone and have good D coverage in their own zone. Leafs just need to keep working and win those battles for the puck. Need to get a couple greasy ones and hopefully it opens up a bit.

It’s because Babcock can’t adjust. Same reason we can’t beat Ottawa. Babcock has no answer for the trap.

We're also not getting out of our zone crisply, with any speed...Philly isn't exactly a defensive juggernaut.

Correct. And there oughtta be more scraps when called for. The game is soft.

Ugh, Babcock has turned a once exciting team to watch into a snoozefest of a team that couldn't score goals if they had a wide open net for 60 minutes.

Castrated his offence to improve defence. Guess what, Mike, your D sucks worse than your offence does. So, it's NOT working.

Not earning his pay cheque at all!
Everyone on Kadri, to me Marleau is the one to look at on that line. I still like the signing but he's just skating around, not engaging, zero fire or initiative, and it's been that way for weeks.

The Leafs have become predictble. They really need to go back to a speed and stick handling style through the neutral zone. Babcock has neutered them.

Worth pointing out that the NHL has made it clear that at least 90% of Stevens hits would be still be considered clean today.

The one (major) exception would be the Kariya hit. Even back then that was borderline dirty. Today, that'd be a 5+ gamer even in the playoffs.

Any time the Leafs try to get speed through the neutral zone and stickhandle through, Philly has a man on them tight. That's the issue right now.
