If he was sent down (assuming he doesn't have a one way contract) anyone making less than 1,075,000 can take his place without increasing our salary cap (If I've read the Buried Threshold rules correctly) I imagine they won't however because the optics of signing a UFA then demoting him wouldn't look good...That's unfortunate.

NHL of today is a game of speed. The only way to get around that, is if you have an elite hockey IQ.
