Ritchie definitely needs to be replaced in my honest option. He’s shown some hustle and possession is ok but he just can’t finish. A perfect example was Marner gifting him a goal with an amazing pass from behind the net, that ended with Ritchie falling on his butt and fanning on the puck.with Tavares, that would have been a goal.

Just saying.. If we fail this season I still think the best path forward is a retool. Would Arizona trade their top 2 pick + next years unprotected first + maybe some prospects for Matthews? Can we get a first + for Muzzin like was rumored for Ekholm? Just saying you don't need to tear it all down, but you can add some dynamic franchise talent quickly and re-structure the cap in the process.

Just a reminder...Ritchie is the 6th highest paid player on the team. If he was sent down (assuming he doesn't have a one way contract) anyone making less than 1,075,000 can take his place without increasing our salary cap (If I've read the Buried Threshold rules correctly) I imagine they won't however because the optics of signing a UFA then demoting him wouldn't look good...That's unfortunate.
