For all the laughing that we like to do at Luongo's expense, I truly believe that he would get the Leafs into the playoffs. He's not a terrible goalie, he's a #1 goalie on a lot of teams. But he has the ability to be just down right awful. With the right coach you can stop that by knowing when to not play him.

To be fair to Luongo

Its only vs Hawks and Bruins in playoffs that he looked downright putrid

Against rest of NHL might perform better

Which made it pretty funny in the SCF, since all we heard from Vancouver fans (and media) was how the Bruins had no "elite" offensive players.

Dave Nonis is the next GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Unclear whether that is interim or unconditional appointment.

If they do end up getting rid of Kessel I am going to

Under the new CBA, it seems to me that a contract like Luongo's one is very painful to have. I think we would have to ask OOG to clarify the whole situation ( cap implications ).

On the 1 hour show of That's Hockey last night, (Jan.08) Mike Johnson had a great breakdown on how both teams would deal with trading and acquiring Luongo and his contract.

People should take a look at it.

We'll never know I guess. If he wanted to blow it all up....yes.
If he thought BobbyLou would make them a winner (even w/ what they have to give up)....no.

It would all depend on what they had to give up to get him. But, the Leafs have been missing 2 major parts for a long time; Goalie and #1C. They have a shot at getting one of those right now.

I wouldnt be at all surprised if Nonis does Kessel for Luongo.

Thought the same exact thing...Both players need a change, although Phil played far better last year then he ever has.... Knew where the D zone was for once without the help of Google Maps... The weightroom on the other hand..

Luongo is a very slow starter and his best month statistically is December, so too bad he missed that month. I would believe if the Leafs got Luongo they would be a
7th-9th seed.

With Reimer and Scrivens in net that is another story, too unproven.

The Leafs need a goalie with experience and what if Reimer or Scrivens goes down due to injury who then, Peter Ing?

I dont disagree that what the Leafs need. But again, what do they give up to get him?

He was great in FLA too. Crappy team in front of him though.
It doesnt help if you rob Peter to pay Paul.

I dont know how they get him without weakening themselves somehow. Unless they have prospects I'm missing.

I don't believe that for a second. If that were true, they would have canned him 3 months ago.
