Yeah. I can understand guys like Marner, Nylander and Matthews not really taking discounts in their prime but Tavares has gotten paid already and is now past his prime.

He can still have productive years but they need to be for a lot less $$. Whatever we save on him (if he returns) + the fact that the Leafs don't really have any bad contracts + cap space increases will make us a juggernaut for the next couple years.

Next year will be a tough one though.

No question, that next year will be the toughest to navigate. It'll be an influx of a lot of prove-it-players and prospects I think while we transition away from JT's big contract.

Oh I know, but he gave the opportunity by perpexingly reaching in from behind with a lazy one handed stick, on the PK, in the offensive zone with absolutely no chance to benefit from it. Hedman took advantage and that was that for the series.

I'm still pissed.

Edit: that wasn't the phantom call, the phantom call was the one that put them on the PK in the first place. This was the next call where Hedman lifted Kerfoot's stick into his own face. I'm still unclear on the rule for that scenario. It's history now.

My kid's high school team may be better than this Arizona team. If the Leafs don't finish with 6 or 7 goals it will only be because Keefe may cut down ice time for the big guys.
