Hope we can draft Sam Bennett to add to Rielly, this would go a long ways to the retool or blow it up approach.

Perlini plays on a line with Carter Verhaeghe already, lets just make this happen.

I don't think it'll be possible for the Leafs to trade up high enough to get Bennett but that would be a awesome if they could. Watch the Perlini and Ritchie videos I posted

Screw that. Trade Kadri and Kessel for Tavares + something small. Sick of Kessel's antics.
Anyone over 25 that was here for all three collapses need to be shipped out. This is the first thing that needs to be fixed.
The younger guys that haven't improved or don't fit in need to be looked at afterwards.
They have to start doing this or don't expect anything to change.

I completley agree and was hesitant in throwing Bozak in there for a isles winger but I have faith in Bozie, he's got a great cap hit and would be a great 1-2 punch with Kadri as #2 and #3C. Kule may be gone this year and Gunnar, i still have faith in Gunnar to be a 2nd pairing guy.

I like Perlini. There are a few Centers around 5 if we can tank it out now. This team will probably just miss the playoffs now that the pressure is off and nail us in the draft too.
I dont see how the first line/kessel is the problem, they actually elevated their game. But they play more of a rush game.
our issue is all of the other lines mostly, the Kadri-Lupul line is basically a lesser version of our first line, no net presence, rushes, cant cycle/win battles.
so we have two rush lines and then a bottom 6 that doesnt score.

Kessel was a big reason why the Leafs even sniffed the playoffs this year. Kessel and Bernier are the MVP's this year for the Leafs (Which doesn't mean much now but you can't blame this on Kessel at all).

Yep was thinking the same thing, now that I'm prospect watching I'm sure the Leafs are going to make their pick as high as possible without making the playoffs.

Our biggest problem is that our best player when he loses the puck has no heart to go and get it. He shows up every once and a while and would rather score a goal instead of doing what's needed to get done. You see it on a constant basis and he just like the rest of this team is prone to these awful turnovers. Can't have that at 8 million. He's great offensively but barring that, what's he good for?
Gunnar I still like from the older players. Kulemin will be gone. All the older guys need to go for whatever best we can get. The youth you keep and see how they develop while you are going to contend for #1 pick (here we will get a stud more often than not). This needs to be done. Must be done.
Everyone has a different role on a team, obviously you should be defensively responsible as well but numerous players similar to kessel(kane, Kovi) have had major success with those types of players, because they surround them with strong two-way players.
I dont see the issue with kessel, he's not amazing defensively but his main focus is winning games for us through goal scoring. It annoys me that people focus on HIM during every single slump, but love him when we're winning(I mean he's 3rd in scoring!!!)
You dont attack the guy thats over a PPG in the NHL, you attack the supporting guys that play exactly like him(Lupul, Raymond, Kadri, Clarkson) all of those guys play soft defense like him, so how can we win?

Have you seen Kane play when he loses the puck? He's amazing at getting the puck back and retaining it. There's a big difference between Patrick Kane and Phil Kessel. Kane wants the puck when he loses it, Kessel doesn't That's the difference between a winner.
He might be 3rd in scoring, but when he's not scoring what he's doing? You never answered that. He's turning over the puck, shooting into bodies, and half the time losing the puck and not even trying to get the puck back.
I agree that the rest of the core is in bad shape. And it's not just Kessel, our whole team defence is a joke and it has been for years. Something needs to give.
i dont know if it would be a retool or blowup - maybe neither.
theres some good components - kessel, jvr, lupul, bernier, reilly... so they need to add even more components now. Some bigger tougher guys up front... some more reliable defensemen in the back. As bad as all this is, I still say it isn't as bad as the Wilson days; back in those days there was absolutely nothing - nada. Not a single player was a keeper. So they have a few guys they can hold on to and will need to keep adding more. I can see a package deal going down in the summer - Kadri out, Reimer out, and yes maybe even Phaneuf if they could find someone to take him on. He'll be hard to move but I wouldn't say impossible - he does have some value. Clarkdaughter will remain because they need to eat some of that contract. Will be interesting as usual.
I will say this - i'd rather they don't make the playoffs anyway. Why just sneak in only to get humilated in the playoffs again. At least this way there won't be any specific team to eliminate them, it will be just another generic elimination that we've seen about 10 times in the past 11 years

Unless we draft in the top 3 for two or three times we are not getting a core. No one is going to give us a core. We have to be realistic here. Once we have those guys then you can start trading and retooling. Otherwise, you get a Phaneuf or Kessel that are good players but are not real good core guys.
Here is another opportunity. Take it. All the fans are on board.
On top we have Rielly at age 20. Perfect timing to tank. Tank NOW!
