Keefe is going to blow this season again with his inept line management. Nylander and Tavares are putrid together and last game was proof. Yet he has them together again.

Glad Simmonds is out but thought Abruzzese was good and deserved another game at least.

Play Woll again
Tavares and Nylander together does not work. I know Marner is the player whisperer but he's not a miracle worker. Stop fooling around with this line and split those two on different lines now. Nylander-Matthews-Jarnkrok will be an awesome first line, Bunting-Tavares-Marner a good second line. If you're not sure where ROR will play, interchange with Bunting intermittently. Start working on these lines tomorrow.

Wasn't last night their first game together?

They're all talented guys and I'm sure they could figure it out over some time, IMO time for experimenting should be over.
Keefe just seems so far out of his depth at times.
What sport and what team doesn't use the final games of the season to experiment or rest players?

Football everyone sits.

Baseball you use your callups and set up your rotation

Basketball is just load management all season

This is the perfect time to experiment. If our top guys can't be ready for the playoffs at this point then the Leafs will never win.

Disagree completely and I don’t see what other sports have to do with anything

You can disagree all you want. Show me a team that doesn't

A) Rest players
B) Give some kids a shot

Once any of that happens you are now experimenting.

Nevermind that anyone's best laid plans all go to hell as soon as someone is inevitably injured.

What other sports and teams have to do with it is simple. Why would the Leafs or NHL be doing anything different from any other league or team?

Sure if the roster had been set and lines had been playing together consistently to this point.
That hasn't been the case though.

Hockey isn't comparable at all to those other sports, really surprised that would need explaining.

I mean, I understand what you are saying and I get that you think lines need to gel and be cohesive, but that also plays with middle infielders playing together, a QB working with his WR, a PG pick and rolling with his PF.

Everyone is going to be better knowing what their linemates or team mates tendencies are.

I can argue in fabour of ROR needing some stability rollinv into the playoffs and setting up their D pairings but I am not concerned on who plays where at the end of the year.

If Knies arrives it will change everything anyways. Or if someone gets injured( knock on wood)

I don’t know what Keefe saw from those top two lines last night that makes him want to stick with them.

Probably this.

Probably want to see what the Matthews line and the 2nd line can do against a real team.

Elite in the regular season and the handshake line, not in the playoffs.

But the narrative is Dubas never built a playoff team before this year... so how would you ever expect Keefe to win with a terrible team?

All of the people complaining about line juggling.. I get it but also every player on the roster has played with basically every other player. It means game conditions, injuries, etc he can change things at will and there should be some chemistry there already.

We have 9dmen who can suit up and are comfortable with basically any other player. Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares have played with each other all year swapping wingers around. JT has played C and W.

The roster is very flexible going into a cup run

They won't be playing the worst team in the league every night so they may not have such an easy time.
Columbus gave them everything and played their hearts out for their rookie goalie from Toronto. Definitely wanted a moral victory after a disappointing season. People still don't realize how often bottom feeders have that exta gear against us in the regular season.

I thought Columbus looked terrible for the most part.

I really hope Keefe noticed that Reilly easily had his best game of the year playing with Brodie last night.

I know he is going back to play with Schenn and the Blue Jackets suck but wow was he good last night

I'd rather they steam roll them for 60 minutes and take that confidence into the series.
We all know the Team lacks confidence once the playoffs start.
Our confidence seems decent when the playoffs start leading Montreal 3 games to 1 and TB 3 games to 2.
It is the closing it out part we need to fix.

They didn't get many looks, but their own broadcast thought it was one of their stongest defensive/goaltending efforts of the season and credited us for generating so many chances despite that - even talked about how well constructed we were for playoffs. Sometimes it takes an outsider's perspective. The doom and gloom on tsn and sportsnet (and here) get old in a hurry.

Is this correct??
The Leafs Magic Number to clinch home ice against TB is 2.5.

6 point Leafs lead
5 games to play
If TB goes 5-0 and we go 2-2-1 including losing against TB we will clinch home ice.

Any combination of the Leafs getting 5 points or TB losing 5 points will do it.
Tiebreaker will go to TB.

The first tie-breaker is regulation wins (RW), which are all the wins you've accumulated minus those in overtime or the shootout. If teams have the same number of regulation wins, the second tie-breaker is regulation and overtime wins (ROW), so only the shootout is excluded. If still tied, the total number of all wins is used and, if still tied after that, the edge will go to the team that accumulated more points in the head-to-head matchup against the team they're tied with.
