It will cost the Leafs a significant sweetener to dump Muzzin's contract the other way.

I guess Morgan Reilly is approaching the wrong side of 30.

Morgan Reilly is approaching the wrong side of 30

Typically when someone says wrong side of thirty, they mean 35+ which he will be by the end of his contract but not approaching it

Bertuzzi would be a nice alternative to ROR as well

Why would the wrong side of 30 mean 35+? 30 is the number that you’d be on either side of

Because 29/30 isn't old... You clearly don't understand the expression. Wrong side of 30 means you're approaching 40

Agreed, that’s why I don’t think trading for parayako makes sense, we just can’t afford to take his cap hit on without sending a decent dump back, which St. Louis probably doesn’t want

Parayko was a beast. Back injuries can be a terrible thing, and one of the reasons we are looking to replace Muzzin.

With the back injuries, Parayko isn’t the beast he once was, and to trade for him given not only the decline in current play, but the risk he gets worse or retires is problematic.

Maybe he returns to form, and that’s great, but at nearly 30, and the toll physical hockey takes, that isn’t a risk the Leafs should be taking. To give up that kind of assets, the target should be healthier, and ideally younger.

I understand your hesitancy to give up a player who has been beastly for your org, but if someone offers you a pile of asset for a player in decline.. run with it.
To put it bluntly, you have no idea what you are talking about in regards to Parayko’s health and current level of play.

The wrong side of 30 means in your 30s. It’s not old but with 7-8 year deal that’ll expire near 40 that’s a current.
He'll be 37 when the contract expires which is not out there for a player to have a 35+ contract. It would definitely be an anchor of a contract in the last couple years or so but a lot of players sign long term deals at 28/29 that put them right into their late 30's. Point being, concerns of his term is valid but not his current age.

Well the concerns of term is related to his current age. Sign 8 years at 25 and it’ll expire at 33. Sign 8 years at 29 it’ll expire at 37.

Hasn't looked good to me in my viewings, doesn't look good in stats, many of the Blues fans are saying he doesn't look good either... and sorry, that type of back injury, don't trust it

Ok, these are a bit cherry picked, but unquestionably he is having some terrible games, I did catch that Montreal game as well, and he didn't look good at all. I've watched bits of other games as well, and he just doesn't look the same to me...

-I completely agree that he has struggled a lot this season and it got worse in the playoffs. When we won the cup he was our number 4 defenseman playing on a pair with the very defensively responsible JBow.

As per one of the comments, he was good as a sheltered #4 with JayBo... he isn't, and never was really a good top pairing guy, is now paid like one, and I don't think he's as good as he once was... maybe if you find a way to shelter him again, he looks better,

From your own board... on Parayko

He’s nowhere near untouchable. He’s not that good anymore.

I'm not trying to make him a scapegoat for our current troubles at all, I just believe he's a low IQ, low skill big body that could get a great return to jump start a retool.

I'm well aware that trading him would crater our Dzone capabilities even more than what's happening now but this group isn't working as is and he would garner a lot more interest than Krug along with a more significant return. I've been on the "This D group isn't going to work.." train since Jbo went down and I'd like to be out from under Parayko's long contract.

As to it the likelihood of it happening I agree with you, it's not likely. It's just something I'd like to see happen.

Ahhh OK, so you had no idea what you were talking about then went and cherry picked some info and poorly presented some colorful charts without proper context to double down on your previous take. Got it.

I do not care what you think about back injuries. Parayko is healthy and has not seen a decrease in his level of play anymore than the rest of the team has with their struggles and bad luck so far this year.

Parayko eats some of the toughest minutes of any dman in the entire NHL. Since you have decided to actually do some research here, go look up his usage. Parayko has an 69% dzone start percentage all situations this year. So far this year there are 114 dmen who have played 200+ minutes 5v5. Parayko's 21.21 5v5 offensive zone start % is the 3rd lowest (his primary partner Leddy's is 2nd at 20% even). Of those 114 dmen, Parayko has the 5th lowest 5v5 PDO at .934.

The Blues just had a 9 game losing steak and you found 2 posts from Blues fans criticizing a player? C'mon man. Give me a break. Lol @ your take that Parayko isn't a top pairing defender or that he needs sheltering...wildly off base. You don't want him, great! Happy to keep him

I’m just not sure Leddy or Krug are the right fit for Parayko. Both are defensive liabilities. He thrived when he was paired JBo, another defensive Dman.
