Post-Game Talk: Leafs Beat Panthers and Clinch a Playoff Spot 3-2

This is where Shanahan has to actually do his job behind the scenes. They should be compiling video of any and every instance that a panther commits a penalty that goes uncalled and be showing it to the league. No more separate rulebooks for different teams. The Panthers are a great team and can win without the refs help and vice versa. Just call things the same way.
Shanahans job is to stay quiet and get a head office gig in the NHL after this. He's gonna say f*** all. He sucks .

Has to at least be acknowledged with a fine. The infractions just keep on for that guy, even if unofficially.

Oh yes, a fine. That’ll really teach Sam Bennett a lesson. He must be trembling at the thought of losing a few thousand dollars.

If we sign him next year, he'll get called for that by every on-ice official plus the video guys all at once.
Others have said it here, but I think he is going to be absolutely blown away by some team with an insane deal that won't look very good in short order. I don't see us in on him.

But I agree, if he did sign, he will turn into Kadri and Bunting here by reputation.

Donnie!!! The point being the league needs to acknowledge it and it is somewhere on Bennett's file when he finally does get dinged for something and his past comes into play.

You are becoming a legendary poster by the way. Must read.

I have a long memory. Him doing nothing after Kaberle (one of my favorite Leafs ever) got wall papered pissed me off. I just think the guy is full of himself. I also can't stand the sun belt teams... it is easy to win when there is no pressure and nobody cares and league gifts you power plays (as seen tonight) when you need them the most.
Are you talking about that dirty Cam Janssen late hit on Tomas Kaberle back on March 2, 2007 during a game against the New Jersey Devils?

I just seen on Reddit that the last time both Boston and Detroit missed the playoffs was 1967 as well.

Should we start planning the parade again?

Take Matthews off the PK. Not worth overloading his minutes for sub-par results.
I do understand everyone's frustration with Matthews, especially on the PK.

When Aussie is engaged, he thinks the game at a high level and anticipates plays. Strong enough to win battles, and can make some spectacular outs. Also decent but not a stud on faceoffs.

Marner is probably our best shift in and shift out on PK. That leaves Kampf (was out in the 3rd), Knies, Lorentz and a very shaky Laughton. It pretty much needs some Matthews... now whether it can be more as a mixer rather than PK1 ... I could buy that.

I also feel the passive wedge puts us under so much pressure.. But it seems that is the way this staff likes it.. Passive and hope you can get bodies on people and pucks and your goalie is on his game.

Florida clearly played Toronto hard and they saved Bob for this game. A few of their top players being out is definitely reflected on their average play the last couple weeks but I don't think it devalues this win much. The leafs have had stretches where they play great without their top players.

This team has struggled to have any semblance of a killer instinct. This is exactly the kind of game they normally lose regardless of their opponents situation. Hopefully they continue winning down the stretch and show something going into the playoffs with a division title.

David Kampf injury did nothing to me. McCabe injury news sucked to hear.

Great win regardless. We need to pray injuries dont start piling up to end the season. The NHL schedule is tight as a bootyhole

Hopefully they get the same playoff result as in '67...
I’ve just learned a new interesting trivia fact today. The last time that both the Detroit Red Wings and the Boston Bruins missed the NHL playoffs in the same year was back in the 1966-67 season. So far, Boston is on a 9-game losing streak this late in the season and is dead last in the eastern conference standings, for the first time since April 1997. And as of April 2, 2025, Detroit is actually 4 points away from the last playoff spot in the East, currently held by the Montreal Canadiens. There’s actually a pretty strong possibility that both of these teams could miss the playoffs in 2025.

And by the way, 1967 was actually the last year that the Maple Leafs won the Stanley cup championship. What an encouraging coincidence. That gives me hope personally.

Statement win.

Don’t care that Panthers played without some key players. If the the boys lose today to a shorthanded Panthers team, that’s pretty much it for the team this season even if they finish 1st in the Atlantic.
