Around the League 2024-25 season

You have been hearing about the mediocre mid for the last four seasons, not just this one, but of course you won't mention that the previous three seasons the "fake fans" were right. This season is tbd, but I'm guessing if you are wrong you will disappear again.
You disappear every time the Kings win a game because what are you going to talk about? In fact, what are you doing here today?

We're not going to know the 4-6 best until sometime in May. While this regular season has had some nice surprises and has been enjoyable for the most part, the real true fans only care about playoff success. This is the real reward for sitting through 82 games, not the 82 games in and of itself.
Axl is referring to the Jack Adams, which is an award based solely on the regular season. It almost always goes to the coach of a team that has the top record or way over-performed expectations.

Hiller has been quietly excellent as a coach, employing interesting tactics and getting great results, but a team that goes from 3rd in a division to 2nd in a division isn't exactly going to earn a coach a Jack Adams. The Kings were already expected to make the playoffs, so he's not going to win.

My guess is that Carbery wins it, but maybe Hiller gets some consideration.

Hiller will get some votes, as he should, but he's probably in the 4-8 range for the year. And as @lumbergh points out, there wasn't much movement in the standings, which by and large is what the voters are looking at rather than what was actually 'done'. It's almost a 'most improved' award which is hard to do for a near 100 point team even fi they end with the best season in franchise history, best home record, other improvements.

You don't like there wasn't an 'exhaustive search', yet you have no clue what went on behind the scenes. Did someone tell you this?
Hiller being the only person interviewed was common knowledge and reported by multiple sources at the time of the hiring.

Some of those sources even, gasp, the horror, criticized the move as teams usually interview multiple candidates just to get an idea of what others would do differently with the roster.

1.Carbery
2. Arniel
3. Hiller (likely -- will be a close race for 3rd with about 3-4 guys with a chance).

Dean Evason.
Jim Montgomery - saved the Blues season
Scott Arniel - Took the Jets to another gear and the top of the NHL without any major additions
Spencer Carbery - Brought the Caps back from near dead to near the top of the NHL

NOT Jim Hiller - he's in the mushy middle and only 12 year olds think he should be awarded the Jack Adams, let alone be a finalist.
You mean…. “12 year olds think he should be a finalist for the Jack Adams, let alone win it”. A school boy error, kinda ironic considering the 12 year old comment.

I said “in the conversation “ which is not the same as saying he should be winning it. I do think he could be a finalist because he’s over achieved in his first full season as a HC. I don’t think he should win though. Carbery should.

It's not in my gift to reply to everyone. I was replying to Herby simply because his posts are interesting, which is not in your gift sadly

I feel like they at really dragging their feet to release the playoff schedule this year.

I'll be off grid next week backpacking in Hawaii and I'm likely to miss games 2 and 3. What's the move? I have directv stream on my phone so I can pull up the recordings when I get out but do any of you guys have any tricks for avoiding spoilers in situations like these?

In the 2014 playoffs i had to watch almost every game until the WCF basically after midnight haha

DVRed them, but also turned off all notifications on my phone so i wouldn't get a text or twitter update until i had watched the damn thing

I guess that means if anyone had an emergency between 8pm and 3am they were f***ed but cest la vie

I dunno about for several days, guess it depends on how connected you need to be

What do you want to know? I'm an expert at this - probably watch every game this way.

A big key, especially for playoffs, turn your text messages off so your buddies don't text you with game updates. (assuming you have buddies)

I watched them live, so the first half was 7-9 hrs behind and when on the East coast only 5 hrs. My ex wife was not happy with me watching games on my laptop whilst we were in bed

I think a case can be made for Hiller, the Kings have the best defensive system in the NHL and had a great season with limited offensive talent on the roster.

But Evason had that team within 1 game of the playoffs, despite losing his two best offensive players in the off-season, one of them to an unthinkable tragedy. And he was able to get a lot of their young players to take a big step this season, specifically Fantilli and Johnson.

Not surprised they gave Oilers the extra day of rest.
Even though it is McDrai, I think it is a TV thing. Kings are TV kryptonite so Montreal getting in and playing Ovechkin probably bumps them to Sunday for TV purposes in Canada, relegating Game 1 to Monday.

Kings weren't supposed to be playing tonight since this is the makeup game from during the fires. Kings need the rest day themselves so not too worried. Any day closer for Edmundson and Jeannot, along with rest for Kopitar and Doughty, is a good thing.

That game 1 is scheduled for Monday as well - this makes zero sense.

Home ice reward for Kings fans gives them games on a Mon, Wed and Tue. (unless it goes 7) That is f***ing horrible.

Meanwhile, EDM gets Fri, Sun and Thu.

How dare you. That glass is clearly half empty.

Well...we've had multiple F/SU home games the last few years so that is just the way it goes.
