Post-Game Talk: Leafs beat Connor Hellebuyck 4-3, end 3 game skid in OT

....... so your saying if a player makes a low percentage play that is not scored on, but later makes a good defensive play "all's good"? @notdoneyet What happens if Winnipeg scored on Marners turnover... then the good defensive play later couldn't have happened. Then what would your response have been? Not all good? ---- Can't wait for your response.
Marner is one of the most dynamic players in the game
Part of that is due to him making plays that no one else can do
Occasionally it doesn’t work
You have to accept that because again he is who he is by making those difficult plays

you just cant cherry pick to support your perceived bias against marner

Anderson finished strong and made some saves that he should be expected to make as the starting goalie for the team.

Hockey is a game of mistakes (if you think even when we play our best we’re not going to turnover the puck, then you don’t watch enough hockey), helly the last two games has played completely out of his mind. It’s not unheard of for hot goalies to carry teams that have absolutely no business winning games to win streaks or even playoff series wins.

the jets capitalized on their very few chances (reminds me of some leafs teams in the past) but overall they were garbage. They have some firepower - sure. Their defence is trash and they spent a majority of the game on their heels or without puck possession. Their success will continue to ride on helly’s shoulders.

Apparently Ehlers didn't have a single high danger chance last night according to Natural Stat Trick.

It might be rielly tbh.

But I'm just happy and shocked that they didn't include Fred as an option.

That speaks volumes imo because Fred has always been included in any talking head segment about Leafs' MVP, let alone 3rd best player.
Speaks more to how well the team is playing than your narrative that Fred is bad.
We needed a goalie to save our butts then but now we don't. I think all the stats you post shows that too

How the heck did Matthews score that last goal? I’ve never seen a goal like that in my life. It was like he jedi-mind shot that in at the weirdest angle . Phenomenal.
It's like he's playing with a tennis ball and not a puck. As a beer league player, I'm shocked at what he does with the puck. When you watch him, you forget that a puck is actually quite heavy. LOL

You’re probably right, but Mr Quizmaster asked who the third most important forward is.

The team is playing well. The one drawback seems to be no matter how well or poorly Freddy plays he seems to be the second best goalie in the game. That could be the downfall in the long run. Hoping he wakes up or Campbell gets healthy. Hutchinson is not the answer.

If we had a goalie we would be up 9. Hopefully Campbell is ready to go tomorrow

Ehlers is so much better than pretty Willy that it's sickening. And Tavares sucks. After his wive got a baby this 11 mil bum can't do a thing.

Can't tell if serious or not. Nylander probably would've scored 5 goals last night if it was any other goalie in net and no that's not an exaggeration. Tavares sucks ?...ok

Honestly with the way Tavares and Nylander have looked the past few games I wouldn't mind swapping that lines ice time with the Matthews/Marner line for a bit so we don't burn them out before playoffs.

Only a matter of time before the shooting % turns around in a big way and gives them a chabce to rack up some points.

Especially while Matthews is dealing with the wrist injury. He doesn't need to play 8 minutes more than JT.

Big win for the Leafs but ...

They played a strong game overall, while the Jets game was fairly average, but they almost lost because Hellebuyck kept delivering timely and ten bell saves all night, while Andersen continues to struggle with that.

Leafs never seem to get a key save from Freddy when they need it.

Man I'm happy about this one. I was convinced somewhere in the second belle was going to steal another one. Gutty win, happy to see the team respond after Keefe put them in the hot seat. Saturday will be fun

I feel bad for the Anna Kendrick guy that didn't watch the OT because he "knew how it would end"
You can @ me next time.

I watched the entire game, OT included. Very happy to see them win. I was probably too defeatist in that post but the Jets are phenomenal in 3 on 3 and not many of us have any confidence in Andersen at the moment. It certainly seemed like they were going to have another game stolen from them.

I just watched that BUF goal. The release on that one was more predictable. The trajectory too. That was saveable. The one he scored last night was incredibly deceptive. Looked like he defied the laws of physics for a moment. Even in slo mo that is hard to track.
I fully agree! His OT winner last night really reminded me of Datsyuk in terms of how innovative that release was. Wow what a beauty goal

This series proves one thing: The Leafs have zero competitors in this division.

Jets seem worse than the Oilers and Habs but with better goaltending. We have dominated most of the games that we have even lost. I can't see a team in this division beating the Leafs in a 7 game series provided we are even relatively healthy.

Dubas needs to go all out and improve either the top six or get Elkholm on D. This could be the year they go all the way.

One of the many differences between Keefe and Babcock...he has a feel for how a guy is going on any particular night. Thornton looked slow on the top line, Vesey didn’t cover for Holl on the second goal, Kerfoot wasn’t going on the second line...so he made changes. Also, unlike earlier in the season, he started OT with Matthews and Marner. Great coaching from the Adams trophy front runner.

I'd be worried against the Habs if Price gets hot like he's capable of and Andersen craps his pants, but even then a wouldn't be too worried in a 7 game series. I'm happy they fired Julien though because he was part of why they were a threat.

But yea this team can definitely go all the way; gotta put a team together that could go head to head with Tampa+Kucherov.
