You obviously didn’t read the whole response. They can still finish 2nd overall and that could give them home ice for the rest of the playoffs (other than against Boston), so not meaningless.

If you’re a pessimist than of course it’s meaningless but that’s irrelevant.

This. This is not a completely meaningless game at all. We are 1 point back of Jersey and 2 behind Carolina. We hold the tiebreaker on both, and we all have 2 games to play. Obviously no guarantees on the first round, but if we advance we'd have home ice against anyone but Boston if we could pass those 2. Definitely worth playing for and having that in the bank.

You talk about finishing 2nd to lock in home ice against everybody but Boston, but do you think Boston is going down in round 1? I hope they do because a 15th-22nd pick would be a bonus but you can't depend on that.

Samsonov has publicly stated that 8 days off of no game action is too much and wants to play Thursday vs. NYR to stay in rhythm.

He hasn't been overworked. He's 22nd in games played for goalies. Vasy has played 17 more. A guy like Hellybuck, 21 more games.

Who cares how much he played in October and November, he’s carried a heavy load in the second half.

I give him half the game on Thursday. We’re already down a goalie, you play it safe.

Can't blame you given the history, but Edmonton and Vegas are also in the same point range if it goes to SCF. They aren't exactly meaningless games, which is the point the other poster was making, and I agree. Eyes should be on the ultimate goal not just rounds 1 and 2.

Leafs vs NYR in game #82 could could even decide who has home ice if these 2 teams met in a playoff series this year.

However for the integrity of the league because NYR, Car and NJ are all still battling for position in the Metro, it would be reckless of Toronto to play an ATO goalie and that kind of bad Karma could come back and bite the Leafs some time in the future.

I would assume they would start their game 1 lineup on Thursday.

I agree and believe that is the way to go.

This morning they were talking about the long wait inbetween series when a team sweeps and they play a team that goes 6 or 7.

The team that has rhe longer break almost always loses. No matter their respective records.

I am all for resting guys that have a legit injury and could use the time off but you also want to stay sharp heading in.

Yeah not dissimilar to the game we played vs. Tampa late in the season last year, lost like 7-1 or whatever it was and then won Game 1 5-0. That one didn't mean anything, either.

These last two games do have meaning to them though. We still have a chance at climbing up to 2OA. That could prove quite helpful if the Leafs were to actually do what we’re all hoping they do….. make a serious Cup run!

I guess it comes down to how important people think home ice advantage is. I don’t think I want to see Sammy between the pipes tonight, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the rest of the guys out there.

Of course you’re risking injury to one of your star players, but I think it’s really important to go into the playoffs rolling.
