Knies, Minten and Cowan were pretty good, especially the first 2. Robertson didn't have his best game but he scored a beauty goal, so it evens out for all the great games without a goal I guess. Holmberg played a quiet but solid game, especially on the PK. Hirvonen, Abruzzese and Steeves were barely visible.

Rifai I think stood out this game again. Niemela needs more time, he's too inconsistent right now.

Jones was great. He'll likely get claimed from waivers but that's what it's for. That's why players sign these contracts.

Minten protected the puck so well there.
Im not entirely sure that hes ready to be a full time 3C. He does so many things at the pro level already. He looks like a guy that the more work he gets, the more he's able to control play.

I don't think I've ever seen him intimidated when hit and he uses the boards on the fore and back check. He's not a tough guy, but he just seems like the kind of opponent that that' can wear you out and then take advantage of any mistakes.

If he makes it he'll need to play, and not sit in the pressbox or see really limited action on the 4th line. I would think that 15 to 16 mins is what he would need to help his development. The big question for him can he do it for at least 65 games and not take a backward step. Like Cowan he's just a kid.

Great games by Minten, Knies, Cowan, Holmberg, and Robertson. The future looks bright. Minten has to get better on face offs and I thought Knies looked a little tired at times playing on a back to back. Jones was very impressive. I don’t know how we’re going to be able to keep him.

I was not impressed by Benoit or Niemela. Brodie looked ok but had a huge gaffe in the last few minutes. Everyone else was just meh.

As much as I’m liking Jones, the best case scenario for us right now is that he continues to show and play well, and we are able to trade him for a pick.

We aren’t losing him for nothing, and while he’s giving Woll a really good run, I think we are clear on our goalies for next season.

Just a bummer that we always seem to be looking for our 3rd goalie because we can never get anyone through Waivers.

Good on Jones coming in and doing well. I think he’s earned a backup shot somewhere else, and good on Treliving if he can turn him into a draft pick.

What were you looking for from Niemela? He’s just cutting his teeth in the NHL.

He was always going to be a rookie Marlie player next season and I think he has acquitted himself just fine in his games thus far.

Not sure what you were expecting of Benoit, considering it was his first game on a new team, and has been injured for the entirety of training camp thus far. He came in already behind the others.

I saw him blocking shots, clearing the crease and scrumming after the whistle. He brings some of what we are going to be sorely missing without Schenn.

He and McCabe are the only defenders we have who make life remotely difficult for the other team, and this bothers you?

Would much rather have Benoit than a washed Giordano going into the season.

I liked what Benoit has shown so far and he could actually be a very good 3rd pairing LHD for us, at a very decent cap hit.

Not happening IMO.

Plus Jones also had an .887 save percentage last season, and has not had a save percentage over .900 since 2017/2018.

Probably not, hope they can find a way to keep all three on the roster. Personally I’d be more comfortable with Jones as the back up. Not sure Woll is ready if Samsonov were to go down, but he’s younger so maybe he grows into the role more this year.
