The first line I wanted to see since Mtl acquired Newhook.

The first pairing I wanted to see since Mtl drafted David.

Good job putting back Barron out there. With norlinder who'se having a good camp.

Love the third line with Kidney instead of Mesar. It's an "important" game for Andersson and Heinemen

I hope Barron from last season shows up rather the one from last night, else it is going to be hard to see anything defensively on a Barron Norlinder line… Really like the lines though but I could see Newhook switching with any of the second line at any point in the game.

Gally is hanging on the big money pot right now, not playing for the sake of playing. It even looks like he phoned in his off-season training since his cardio looks worst than last year.
Yeah Gallagher's been done for a while now, but last not was brutal. Tony Marinaro skates faster for longer.

For this exact reason I'm really curious to see the impact that Lane Hutson will have on the PP.

He didn't seem to have those insane cross ice passes that Markov had, but who does? He did seem to be able to keep onto a puck though and move in the O-zone, which we really need right now.
I've never played or coached a game, so I ask those more experienced than me to keep an eye out the next few games while the Habs are on the PP.

Once the Habs gain entry and have control of the puck, most of the time only 3 players touch the puck: the pointman and the 2 players on the half-wall. They'll pass it back and forth to each other, ignoring the 2 other players. Those 2 other players - on other teams' PP's - usually position themselves down loan by the net/below the goal line and as in the slot as a bumper. The Habs' 2 "extra" players usually are in front of the net. VERY rarely will they ever touch the puck. It's as if the Habs are playing 2 men short when they have the PP

They are terrible at creating/using open space, hence why teams are so effective pressuring the pointman and the 2 players on the half-wall. They know puck possession and movement are unlikely to involve the other 2 players

Looking forward to Newhook with the dynamic duo
And Guhle-Rein of course
They'll be playing against an AHL team...

I kinda want Newhook at center, because it sounds like that is where he's best, and I think he'll be better for Anderson than Monahan. And I think Monahan could put up bigger numbers with Nick and Cole, and get us that 1st.

But if Newhook succeeds with Cole and Nick, all the better for the future. Playing with those two did wonders for Dach.

Have you noticed anything in particular? Newhook struggled mightily when the AVS played him there.

No I wasn't able to watch the games he played at C. Just heard many in the media and on these boards saying he's playing better there. Also there was interview with one of his past coaches who said he's a center. And I think he said in an interview he considers himself a center.

I think MSL is just trying people there to see who works, he said he knew Dach worked there. If Monahan is injured/traded, someone else will have to take that spot after all.

And pre-season is the perfect time to do this instead of the full season.

AVS have a sound organizational coaching approach. Could it be they asked too much of him too soon? Might as well find out now if his game is suited to it.

I'm going to try to watch my first game with Newhook tonight. So hopefully I'll get a view into answering those key questions about him.

My first preseason game and intrasquad game to really watch closely was last night, unfortunately. And I ended up not watching so closely after a certain point. Oh man, was it bad.

It's probably not going to be that pretty tonight either. Leafs are icing a worst forward group than they had yesterday (with a lots of the same players). Their D will be "better" with Brodie, McCabe and Reilly though.
