Leafs fans offering Zaitsev needs to get a reality check.

Now seriously. Division rival and historic rival who wants a player that is loved on his own team and no one wants to see gone. We'll start at 1st + Liljegren + sweetener.

Close this thread.

A first for a 4th line player?

Red Wings fans doesnt WANT to see him gone. Hes one of those Holland-favorites that is also a fan-favorite.

Eh, I might retract my "love to see him gone" with "would be okay to see him go" but I don't think anyone other than a very, very casual fan would care too much to see him go

He is a workhorse and the type of guy who could wear an A for this team but he belongs on the 4th line. He is one of the best 4th liner type guys a coach could want, though.

Honestly, it is probably just media generated because Leafs = clicks.

It makes literally zero sense.

Lol i don't buy this at all

This seems odd.

Yeah, its so crazy that a playoff team hoping to go far in the playoffs for the next few years would want to add one of the league's best shutdown forwards who has experience successfully shutting down top forwards in the playoffs.

I wouldn't even give a 3rd for 50% Glendenning.

Of course you wouldn't. Holland wouldn't take your calls after that.

Please dubas dont be dumb and trade for a 4th line center. 4th line in the playoffs should be seeing minimum minutes. We have elite center depth so they need to deploy this strength and not overpay for a unnecessary piece.

Glendening is the type of forward who gets his minutes increased in the playoffs.

What do you call a 1.8M centre that is a 4th line guy, barely?

If he's barely a 4th line guy, its because he's top 90 in TOI, ESTOI (more than teammate Frans Nielsen), and even strength points, so he's actually closer to a 3C.

I don't really see anything happening here.

IMO, this is much more of a Babcock wishlist than Dubas. If Babcock was GM, Glennie would have already been a Leaf, with Leaf fans still fuming to this day over how much he gave up for him.

Dubas seems to be more calculating, where the price has to be right on the button(or less) to pull the trigger.

Cap doesn't work, someone else is welcome to it. It doesn't work without Zaitsev going the other way, not an opinion, just facts if you look at CapFriendly.

That's fine. Detroit still isn't taking him. Thing is regardless of what you think of Glendening, he is a valued piece in Detroit. He is younger than Boyle, fairly cheap (certainly not a contract we need to get rid of), is speedy, gritty and having a career year. He is a character guy that is close friends with our young core.

Boyle set the market for a valued 4th line Center at a 2nd.

Want us to retain money? 2nd +

Want us to take on a contract we don't want or need (Zaitsev)? Well the cost of the trade goes up even more.

Detroit isn't dumping a player they like just to help the leafs out. This entire thread is lunacy.

To Detroit:
Zaitsev (25% retained about 1.3 mil)
Kapanen

To Toronto:
Luke Glendening (50% retained)
Nick Jensen
2019 3rd round pick

Dont see why the leafs would want to pay their #4C 1.8 million for the next 3 years....

I'm sure cap considerations would be at play, but I think you're severely underrating Glendening with this comment. He is #3C quality and can play crucial minutes and kill penalties. Not just a run of the mill 4C. Dollar for Dollar, Glendening's 1.8 million would be some of the best money spent on any team.

This whole post, absolutely. Zaitsev is the new Komisarek. I mean this only a little bit in terms of sheer dumpster fire play and godawful contract...but mostly in the sense that some of the HFBoards Leafs fans think he's even remotely tradable.

God I miss the "Komisarek + to ________ for ________" threads lmao.

FTFY

Real educated hockey fans know Zaitsev is all of the above:

Negative value
A cap dump
Our only right hand shot top 4 D.
Signed to a stupid contract
An Offensive black hole
Cannot handle the puck effectively
Is a half decent shot blocker

That's it.
If any leaf fans argues otherwise, they are either blatantly misinformed, don't watch hockey, or trolling.
Simple as that.

Leaf fans want Zaitsev gone due to cap issues, but in reality, the cost would be a 2nd just to get someone to take him and then we still don't have a replacement for him. It's a conundrum to say the least.

Not giving up Kapanen in any deal in which Glendening is the piece coming back.
You are getting rid of the Zaitsev contract too. It’s going to be hard to keep Kapanen and improve the defense I thought it was pretty close in value.

You didn't have to fix what wasn't broken, lol. Look again or see below

That's simply not good asset management for the Leafs. Kapanen returns a lot more than Glendening.
