I'm assuming that Holland's price for Glendening, to any team in the Atlantic, is higher than it would be otherwise. Probably starts at a 2nd round pick for any Inter-Divisional team. Or a solid D prospect, like Rosen or Durzi, and a lower round pick

Leafs fans offering Zaitsev needs to get a reality check.

Now seriously. Division rival and historic rival who wants a player that is loved on his own team and no one wants to see gone. We'll start at 1st + Liljegren + sweetener.

Close this thread.

wings already have danny dekeyser with his terrible contract, don't need another one.

The only way it works on the cap at this point. I can't see any other scenario. I don't see a deal actually happening between the 2 teams at this point though.

That's a deal that could make sense for both teams.

For the Leafs, they get the cap relief they want all while upgrading their 4th line.
For Detroit, they take that Glenn cap hit and instead put it into a more needed position and replace Glenn with a cheaper guy. So it's like saving a million on Zaitsev.

I'm all for trading glendening, but no one wants zaitsev at his cap hit. no thank you. the wings already have too many non-offensive defensemen with big cap hits, don't need to add another.

Glendening is one of those guys who means a lot more to Detroit than he does to other teams

Michigan guy, plays any role he's asked, is a beloved teammate, is seemingly in Holland's good books in the same vein as guys like Helm, Abdelkader, etc.

Wings fans would love to trade him for something really reasonable like a 2nd round pick (he has term and things like salary retention can be considered)

But to pry him out of Holland's hands I would think something pretty substantial would need to be coming back

Also keep in mind because of Holland's attachment I wouldn't be under the impression Holland is trying to sell him around the league, if there is chatter going on I would fully believe Toronto asked on Glendening

Zaitsev+??? for Glendenning.

Otherwise...why? That is an expensive 4th line guy.

Under no circumstance would the Wings want Zaitsev.. Secondly, Glendening would fetch a 2nd + prospect considering Boyle just got a second. Glendening is + 9 on a team that is not good at all and provides intensity and work ethic unmatched by both!!

Yeah I don’t really understand it.

I’d like him on this team to solidify the 4th line - but his price is too high considering where the Leafs are with the cap. I wouldn’t want to surrender a significant asset for him either with having no first this coming draft.

Typical Leafs fan they want everything for free, lol

Cap doesn't work, someone else is welcome to it. It doesn't work without Zaitsev going the other way, not an opinion, just facts if you look at CapFriendly.

I am sure any trade involving Glendening the Wings would retain 50%. It would take a 2nd rd pick + prospect to get him or no deal!!

Just makes it easier to scroll through the main page when every garbage Leaf proposal isn't cluttering it up.

How is it that you have been on this website for 17 years(!) with 50k posts and are still taking the time to complain about this? Seventeen years and you thought things would change when Josh Leivo got traded? Bruh...

um Zaitsev is making 4.5 million per year and isnt worth 2.5 million per year way too much term. Only way Zaitsev moves anywaher is so a team has to be cap compliant. Glendening makes 1.8 million per year. Your logic doesnt make sense. Nobody wants Zaitsev at that cap hit.

Explain how I don't understand my favorite team's cap situation.

What is it about the Maple Leafs that makes 90% of their fans so confident running their mouths about players they clearly know little about?

Glendening would be the Leafs best shut-down forward, best faceoff man, best PKer, best hitter, and best shot-blocking forward. Calling him "barely a 4c" and putting him in a class with Lindholm and Gauthier is just a display of ignorance. He's better than them at literally everything.

He's a late bloomer and finally coming into his own. He's top 90 among centers in even strength points despite being on a barren offensive team (for reference, he's comparable to Marleau and Brown in that regard).

He would be the Leafs go-to shutdown forward in the playoffs. Yes, ahead of Hyman, Brown, Kadri, Marner, et al.

Losing Luke Glendening lost the game for the Red Wings

He was 8th in TOI among forwards in the playoffs under Babcock. He was 5th in TOI among forwards in the playoffs under Blashill (ahead of Larkin and Tatar). Cooper had this to say about him:

I don't know how to describe him. He's an extremely responsible player, and there's not a lot of guys out there like the Glendenings. He's done a heck of a job on our guys."

The Wings have no incentive to trade him, especially with retention, if the return isn't worth it. Every team needs and wants a guy like Glendening and the fact that he has 2 more years after this one at a mere $1.8M for everything he does is a positive. He'd be making $2M+ next year if he were UFA.
