Dubas now knows the players we need to succeed in the playoffs.

Schenn 6'2" hits tough as nails some skill
McCabe 6'2" hits tough as nails some skill
Accuri hits tough as nails some skill
OReilly never give up attitude

Resign Schenn OReilly and Accuri

Sign Sammy

These are the we should be drafting in the future .

That said, series winning goal - John Tavares, 2nd in playoff points - Mitch Marner, Matthews scored in each of the elimination games.

You need both, but it's easier to acquire playoff muscle at the deadline then it is to draft high offense talent.

It's only the first round. This wasn't a Cup win. So I'm sure lots of lurking trolls will be laughing at the excitement in the Leafs forum right now. But I don't care at all.

Toronto has had some crazy tough matchups in recent years, going up against Boston and Tampa repeatedly. Beating TB is a huge deal. That team has 2 cups and another finals appearance in the last 3 years. They're a team almost no one could beat. I'm pretty happy the Leafs are advancing.

GO LEAFS GO!!

They're are about to go on a deep run. I'm sure of it.

I hope we gave them respect in the line.

Lol, after 6 years of literal humiliation you’re going to go all high and mighty after winning ONE round? I’d say it’s actually hysterical that one playoff round win in 7 years is creating bragging rights. Lol. The streets of Toronto celebrating all night like we won the cup? It’s cringeworthy.

Oilers won a round last and it’s not even on the front page of r/hockey.

Let’s all just be happy together that it wasn’t 7 straight years of embarrassing humiliation.

And let’s hope beyond all hope that Florida wins tonight.

I remember when Leafs won vs NYI and next year vs OTT we were on Yonge ST celebrating HARD.

Hard to imagine being this miserable.

When you go nearly 20 years without a series win I’d say that’s cause for a good celebration.

Let the fans have their fun and enjoy the moment.

Leading the playoffs in hits, blocked shots, and takeaways, they are battling.

Also, I knew McCabe was a good hitter... but it looks like he has some of the best open-ice hits in the league, and he rarely gets caught out of position because of it.

That call was legendary.

I literally ran out into the street screaming in the rain! I remember they lost the first two games in that series and everyone wrote them off. That series win was the start of something big. Just couldn't get it done against Gretz. If I have to hear him say Game 7 was the best hockey game he ever played one more time...ugh nvm. Thanks for saving that one for us Great One. :thumbu:

That doesn't sound miserable to me. Just pointing out the cringyness of being all "I told you so" after one playoff-round win in 7 years.

Imagine the leafs won multiple cups and a dozen rounds in those 7 years and then lost in the first round yesterday and some fans were screaming "I TOLD YOU THE CORE AND DUBAS SUCK!!!"

It would be insane.

And I'm just being honest, I don't think the leafs can beat the best regular season team in NHL history in round 2 so I'm cheering for a Florida miracle victory tonight. Why is that bad?

Sheldon Keefe is now the only person alive today who has coached the Toronto Maple Leafs to a playoff series win.

Youtube wasn't a thing.

Facebook wasn't a thing.

Smart phones were not a thing.

For those who think we are overreacting...they don't know. They just don't know.

Kind of scary.

However, Keefer better cut back on the Big Mac's. He's giving Chris Farley and John Candy a run for their money

I have to say, I am so impressed with how TB played and I have a ton of respect for that team. So much talk about how they were much worse than they were last season etc. but they carried the play most of time in this series and I did not expect that. Samsonov outplayed Vasilevsky but the rest of the team got outplayed by TB from where I sit.

I'm obviously thrilled that we won but at the same time, if we're to win the cup we also need to play better, much better.

This is the sort of thing people reference when they say that some fans would rather see the Leafs lose than be wrong.

I don’t think anyone has ever said Tampa’s core sucks. They’re clearly one of the best teams in modern history given they’ve went to three cup finals in a row now.

Combine beating a VERY good team along with our playoff drought, it gives us fans a reason to celebrate one night. Can you imagine the celebration if they keep winning! LFG!!! And this is also why WERE THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD!

Good lord, someone was (get this) being all "told you so" to me about 1 playoff series win in 7 years. I didn't start it. I was just pointing out that it's just maybe a little premature for bragging rights.

We're at the point where we should be united together about round 2. If they go deep in the playoffs this year, maybe then you are your ilk can play the "I told yo so" game.

You can go cry on the mainboards if you want. Most people around here are happy about the win. Most.

Schenn and Reilly killed it this series. Mccabe laid massive hits all series. Holl did a great job in the press box and better look for a new job

It’s unbelievable but very apropos that our best defence pairing was the one that featured two Leafs 5th overall picks. Took Schenn a while to make his way back but he’s more than just a feel good story now.

The big, physical, defensive minded defenseman with the smooth skating offensive defenseman is a match made in heaven.

He learned how to play the game that suits his skillset.

And not to be taken lightly, he's playing on a Top 5 not a Bottom 5 Leafs' team.

Schenn looks like he has a few good years left in him, not something one would have thought with his quickness 10 years ago.
