I was looking at pictures of Clifford's face/ smile then looked at his stats and put two and two together.
Johnston says Clifford wants to work in management post career and hints this may be a stepping stone to that. Apparently he job shadowed Shanahan a bit last time around. Something like that.

I don't think Clifford is threatening Engvall's spot.
Mikheyev on the other hand...

That was about Dion Phaneuf lol
Mikheyev will already bump Engvall from the lineup as soon as hes back. Don't have to worry about Clifford being the one to do it.I know a lot of you feel threatened that Pierre Engvall could be losing his spot soon. I say don't worry. I also wonder why you like Pierre Engvall so much.

Haven't seen Cliffy play this season so not sure what "he has been terrible" means given what he brings but I'd like to see what he can bring on a 4th line with Spezza and Simmonds before I write him off. If he can play and Ritchie wakes up, we might actually be somewhat more difficult to play against, which is what Kyle said he wanted to do a couple of years ago. If he can play, it gives Dubas the option to upgrade one of our top 2 LW and making Ritchie/Mik/Engvall expendable.
He was gonna be sent down to AHL by STL and then he decided if that was his fate in AHL he would rather do it close to home .. Cliffy and Muzzy are tight .. also gives him a chance to get into Leaf mgmt over time .. also gives Leafs insurance if Wayner gets hurt and they need a tough guy on 4th lineI imagine this has more to do with getting Clifford back into the organization for an eventual coaching/scouting/etc position than using him on the Leafs.
Basically take Ritchie and make him slower and less involved. You now have Kyle Clifford.
A favor to Clifford.
I thought the hustle on the Leafs last night was demi Pat Burns era...
I don't think Shanahan, Dubas or Keefe are in any danger right now...
Heck Matthews was really engaged.
This Kas and to a slighter extent, Bunting have really embarassed the team into upping their hustle...
Having one of the top five goalies in the NHL, of course is helping tremendously, of course.
I put together he was probably a feisty player and wasnt afraid of the physical aspect of the game and a more enforcer type of player then a stat producing player. Did that answer your question? What did you discover?
Have you ever done the same face/smile comparison with Gilmour?

Seems like now would be as good a time as ever to try to turn Engvall into some picks. Especially with Mikheyev expected to be back soon and Semyonov looking like he fits in as a 12th-14th forward himself.Engvall should worry. So should his fans.
Engvall has fans?Engvall should worry. So should his fans.
Definitely agree. The team is doing well right now soo there is some rope to get Ritchie figured out. I'd say last night was his best game. If he plays with tenacity consistently, the rest will sort itself out.Clifford is 30 he has one more 8 goal 150 hit season in him crashing the net in the bottom 6. That's more than we'll get from Engvall and he costs less too.
This team needs an injection of hits, a guy who will wear the D down after they make a pass from behind their net (I'm sure you all witness the way our D get decked after they make a pass). Clifford isn't a long term solution but he's the best option we have at the moment. 2 hits a game with a safe dependable back check and it's a win.
Swapping Clifford for Ritchie makes no sense. Ritchie already saw the news and dropped the gloves. Clifford Ritchie and Simmonds is nice sandpaper to go with all the skill. We're 9-1 in our last 10 we can afford Ritchie finding his way. The benefit of him hitting his ceiling is worth the risk of having him in as a liability. Engvall doesn't have the same upside so unless he shows some fire soon it's game over for him.
