What now you are defending the league as well? Seriously, how can you take playing 20% of the league in empty areans seriously? I wish we could fast forward to the playoffs and out of this fricken pandemic.

I won't even get into the terrible officiating we have been seeing.
The NFL does that every year.

Nobody likes being in a pandemic, but officiating has always been horrible, and it's been working against us more than for us for years.

People had no problem drawing wild conclusions from a 5-game sample in a summer bubble with empty arenas and horrible ice and a unique playoff format where we faced an insane goaltending performance, but now all of a sudden hockey in those conditions doesn't count? People had no problem ignoring the high quality of our division or the league-best teams we were facing in the playoffs for years, but now hockey doesn't count because some people arbitrarily guessed that our division is weak?

Our elite players and GM have taken constant abuse on contracts, production, playoffs, etc. because of an adamant refusal by many to consider context on literally anything, but now many of those same people are all about the context or writing off end results because they made some arbitrary guess that the Leafs may be benefitting? Yeah, okay. :eyeroll:

Men against boys ... hard to watch such a mismatch ... this is pro hockey boys common ... give a sh*t ... if i was coach I would deduct all Canucks pay for that game ... truly disgusting ... or if that is truly da team OMG what a screw up from GM from last years playoff team ... i can see they truly miss da stabilizing force of Tanev ... I thought worse defense was Edmonton but after watching that at least they have Nurse ... that is softest defense I have even seen in pro hockey

Say good night to Canucks you guys are in sh*tter with Sens and Oilers ... well at least we know who da 4 playoff teams are gonna be ...

Why go externally?

Atleast internally you can develop chemistry. Externally you risk players not clicking.

Sure but the idea is that you can get a better player that you can now fit at the TDL. Internally I do not think we have a viable #2 LWer. I don't see it, but imagine adding Hall at the TDL. Canucks added Pearson and Toffoli at the TDL and won 2 rounds.

Has anyone been watching the games. We have a player on our team right now that is probably one of the best players on the ice, game in - game out. Micheyev doesnt have goals to show for his efforts but damn this kid has looked good. The speed he possesses and the will to get after that puck will eventually start to translate into stats.

I think everyone is making way to much of this winger stuff. We are 11 games in, without a pre-season to gel. This team has looked dominant at times and our wingers will start to contribute. Give it some time.

Soupman will start producing.

I love personalities, emotion, and character players.

There's so much to like on this team. The skill is great, but the above things really do matter.

This is a fun team.

I agree.

Skill is nice, but for anyone who has played the sport it’s great to visually see the respect for hockey traditions:
Respecting veterans (Joe and Spez)
Celebrating first goals
Getting pissed off and sticking up for each other - dropping the gloves.
Laughing and having fun.
Playing the right way for 60 mins.

I’ve seen evidence of all of these things.

IIRC Leafs were looking for a forward a few weeks back so it is also the Leafs that are "making too much of this winger stuff". ;)

Soup has been very noticeable but sure if he starts producing as your #2LWer and you are comfortable with him there, you can address another need at the TDL. The way I see it having Soup in our bottom 6 gives us more depth up front.

Our signings this year have all been home runs

Simmonds
Brodie
Bogosian
Spezza

Have been key, while the others have played quite decently too

Why people keep saying that about waivers? It was universally known that Spezza would not report to any team, so there was absolutely zero sense to claim him.

Just a joke on my part. Had hoped the ;) would have made that clear.

I agree Soup on the 3rd line would be great. But I just dont see the Leafs jumping at this right now when they have Robertson and Thornton on the verge of returning. They will play it out for the next month or so to see how things progress.

Not for anything but Petan looked great last night. Can he possibly get a showing on the 2nd line with Tavares and Nylander? Anything is possible.

When your winning you keep doing what Keefe has been. Try things out. Wouldnt surprise me to see Thornton moved off the top line when he returns with a possible 3rd line C spot. Hyman has looked way to good next to Matthews and Marner. That is a line I wouldnt touch anymore.

So if Taylor Hall gets placed on waivers and states he will only play for the Devils, we don't try and claim him?

The difference is Spezza absolutely would have retired and everyone knows that.
It costs nothing to put in a claim. It does bring to light that GM's around the league aren't as cutthroat as I as a fan thought. I thought a team would claim him, if he retired, at the very least it hurts the Leafs some. I'm not employed by another team to help the Leafs out.

They're also not employed to stick it to the Leafs for no personal benefit. It does cost them something to put in that claim. Good luck having a good relationship or trading partner with a team you just screwed over. Good luck in future negotiations with that agent. Good luck getting veterans to respect you and play for you when you just forced a former superstar into retirement to be petty. All so some team needs to use a different 4th liner.

Correct, but you are in the business of player relations. There's a balance to be struck and basically pushing a player into retirement usually doesn't sit well.

Add that Spezza is from a big hockey market, interacts with a good amount of players and is generally well liked, and you can see why he wasn't claimed

Another wow moment from last night. Brodie has an elite stick in the D zone. He's great at blocking shots, Ima start calling him Borje

That was a really nice play. I'm not a big fan of defensemen leaving their feet, but Brodie played that one well.

I hope the Leafs can keep this up over the next two games. Picking up two wins in regulation is a very possible against this tired, demotivated Canucks team. Hope they're hungry enough to put the boots to them. 3 out of 4 points is an absolute must.

Vancouver is a fragile team right now, so the Leafs just need to put some effort in and with their skill they can score enough to make the Canuck unravel. The biggest thing for the Leafs is to not play down to their defense level and spot the Canucks a lead to make the game an uphill climb.

Wonder if we'll see Holtby on Saturday.
