People need to think of him more along the lines of a Shawn Horcoff or Brendan Morrison, none of them do a whole lot away from elite talent, but are smart enough to generally be in the right places to compliment what the talent is doing and cover defensive shortcomings.
I do not see that in his game at all.

Once again made clear in this game is that both McDavid and Draisaitl are so far ahead of Matthews it's not even (and never should have been) a conversation anymore.

The guy has to be one of the most one dimensional and opportunistic unimpressive players I've ever seen. Besides his shot, there's nothing that stands out about his game. It's remarkable how often you wouldn't even realize he's out there with the way he floats around.

Russell was wayy worse than Bear in this one.

In the 1st period he failed to get it out twice, both of which nearly resulted in goals against.

Get him out for Bouch.

That pairing was a nightmare and the frequency with which Tippett put them over the boards was making me want to change the channel.

I don't think I've been as angry at a game result in a long while. It's basically lose-lose with the Oilers. If we separate McDavid and Draisaitl, the other team just interferes like crazy with our lone NHL-calibre player on each line. If we put McDavid and Draisaitl together, our 2nd line is about as effective as our 3rd or 4th line.

I really hope Klefbom is in good enough condition to return next season because after Nurse and Barrie, it's a tire fire out there as well.

Meh, I'm not sure this was a bad thing. Just like how the President's Trophy is a bit of a curse, the Leafs having such long ownership of first place in the division seems the same.

time to trade for an actual driver on the line since nuge can't do shit and needs somebody else.
If we need a driver why are you showing Hall?

IF RNH is staying on this club we need a hulking LWer for either his or Drai's line (depending on who is centering the 2nd line). I thought that he made some good defensive plays but did absolutely nothing offensively. Having 3 smurfs on 1 line was a recipe for disaster.

Waive Kahun and recall Benson. Kahun seems to have brain shits when he has the puck around either blueline. Dump the f***ing puck deep, you're up 3-1 midway through the 3rd ffs.

They had 2 fluke goals.

We were off for a week.

No need for people to lose their minds.

We will get them Monday night.
Well I'm cheering for you guys, f*** I hate Matthews and his stupid mustache. Hey next game just pretend you're playing against the Sens.

Those that said he’s just a super-charged Monahan are absolutely right.

They’ll lose to the 4th seed Habs in the 1st round of the playoffs anyways.

It's the roll players for the Leafs. They have big strong depth players with speed and some skill. We just don't have that depth. We need many upgrades. Either that or some real top six and LD difference makers that push everyone down a spot. Alex Stalock should be in net next game.

Yeah, if only we had two really good centers so RNH wouldn't have to play center..

Exactly. But we need a top-6 LW either way, Kahun is simply not cutting it. I'm no fan of Hall but at this point I'm on board to bring him in, we need an upgrade desperately.

To be fair to Nuge, it's been clear for 2 seasons now that he is NOT an NHL center. He is a top 6 winger, not a center. Throw him at center and of course he looks bad.

Yeah, RNH at center just doesn't work. I would also argue that McDrai, while great for points, doesn't win us games very much.

We lost tonight because of the hockey gods/puck luck and fairly bad refereeing, but that 2nd line didn't help, that is for sure.
