Leaf Season Optimism Thread

Leafs could be 0-0-10 and lost all 10 games in OT/SO and still have 10 points.

That'd mean they lost 10 skills competitions, but I am sure most people with a motive would frame it as something very negative when it is clearly not indicative of playoff hockey.

My concern is do they want to under Keefe as it sure is not looking good.
Shouldn't they play to the best of their ability no matter who the coach is? I mean they're getting paid all that money, I'd think there's a certain amount of responsibility that should come with that.

We all miss Martina but she has been pretty good. :thumbu:
You really need to stop speaking for everyone as whenever you do, you seem to put your foot right in your mouth. I don't miss her one bit myself and I know there are many other who feel the same.

Anyhow, good thread idea OP. I've never needed a thread like this as much as I need it now.

I'm optimistic that I'll be able to attend many more games this year.

Very difficult finding customers who want to see the Leafs this year.

Positives thus far:

Samsonov
Tavares
Nylander
Kampf
Giordano

Everyone else has been inconsistent and needs to step up if we are to turn the ship around, and that includes Keefe.

Very weird thread.

Can you imagine the leafs tearing the league up ten games in and someone created a "leafs pessimism thread" and everyone in it just pretended all the leafs players had been sucking so far? It's just so strange...

Some people just wanted to discuss more than firing Dubas, Keefe, and Shannahan and trading everyone, if you don't like the thread, just avoid it, pretty simple

You comment on A LOT of threads you don't like. And I'm certain you'd comment on a "leaf pessimism" thread if the leafs were 8-2 to start the season.

Good thread idea.

I'm not reading the crap-all-over-Leafs'-managemrnt threads anymore because I get it: they're losing, and there's not much fun in that. I don't know that pissing all over them makes things feel any better.

I am encouraged that Keefe apparently benched Matner last game. I didn't see the game but I heard about it. I think Keefe has some balls to do that, and it might be be his saving grace. He can't worry about who he's passing off to do his job well. If benching Marner is what needs to be done, then that's what he should do.

I think the Leafs might have the coach they need in Keefe, if he continues to show some courage and stick to his guns on player discipline.

I like that.

The underlying numbers were much better last season then this season. The bigger thing is they had an easy schedule after the rough start. They have a tough November
The Leafs play to the level of their competition so it might be a good thing to play better teams to help elevate the Leafs game and compete level.

You can take for granted easier opponents and feel you can get by on skill and talent alone, but against better competition where a win isn't a given, it takes more effort and desire and in turn naturally helps elevate a players game.

That is why we saw Leafs play and compete better against TB in the playoffs then we saw against CBJ and Montreal. IMO

Leafs could be 0-0-10 and lost all 10 games in OT/SO and still have 10 points. Not a high bar to reach.

What you meant to say Leafs only won 4 of their first 10 games despite playing 7 non playoff teams from last year, but now that Leafs are going to start playing some top teams so we should start seeing the BEST of the Leafs again.,

But. Being undefeated in real hockey in 10 straight games is actually pretty good

Good thread. I'm as disappointed as anyone but it's not like anyone has added anything new in all the negative threads.
I would add Kral as potential positive as well. He lost the puck on that one breakout attempt but otherwise he's looked like he belongs.

Lots of "storylines" to make things more interesting. Samsonov has been a find.

I'm really more interested in the trade deadline moves this season than how much of an expletive deleted Marner is being and how chubby Keefe is getting.

One nice win streak and no one remembers October.

The positive: Keefe, Dubas and Shanahan will be fired soon. :sarcasm:

I'd say the biggest positive is that the team is .500 and looks terrible, there is no way they play this way all season or the stars keep slumping.

Liljegren is back soon too.
Very excited for Lilly to get back, he'll add much needed mobility to the lineup

might be our best defensive defenseman (Brodie probably is), and is our best D in transition I think.

He is likely the most complete D we have.

Same here. I really liked what he did in the latter part of last season. If he can play like that he's better than Holl and Sandin at least. I just hope it doesn't take him too long to get up to speed.

One thing, goaltending hasn’t been an issue. Sam has been very good so far, a bright spot for sure.

-Have played poorly and still have 10 points
-If the new forward signings can get going like we expect, we "should" be in good shape
-Better to slump now than in April
-Knies could be a great late season addition
-For the most part, our issues don't stem from lack of talent

Having said all of the above, I realize there are good counter arguments to everything I just posted; however, this is still the optimistic angle thread.
