Leaf Season Optimism Thread

Since I’m tired of the same threads over and over to yell at how bad the Leafs are, I wanted to start an optimistic discussion thread where we can talk about the team without attacking others for wanting to support this squad, coach and GM. If you want to continue attacking other people for having the audacity to want to cheer for this team’s turnaround, go to one of the other 15 threads created this past week for that.

Things that give me hope we can turn it around:

1) Samsonov looks pretty solid. Better than I thought he’d be. From Washington clips I thought he’d be swimming all over the place but he’s been pretty stable and is helping me recover a bit from the Mrazek splash fests.

2) Matthews has two goals in his past two games. He is too good to keep up the subpar effort we’ve seen so far. The last two goals were shots and not tips so hopefully he is regaining confidence in his shot and he’ll be filling the net again.

3) Giordano providing great value.
For 800 000 Gio still not looking his age. I think he’s great to have this year to help turn around the headspace in the room.

Hopefully the team gives us more to cheer for soon and we have a November like last year.

Lastly, after years of failure to get out of the second round, Colorado starts the 2021-22 season with an abysmal 4-5-1 record. 😬

Looking forward to Liljegren being back in the lineup.

Robertson has looked better than I had expected.

For sure there are some positives and obviously this isn't a lottery team, they will win their share of games.

I can't imagine anyone cares about Colorado. What does that have to do with anything?

It was a joke to imply a potential future parallel.

In my experience adversity can build character. This 4-4-2 stretch as underwhelming as it is, can be the soil that you plan the seeds for success. This is where we find out if we have the leaders to step up and say and do the things they need to do and say to make this team an elite team.

It's fusterating for sure, I never put too much into the first 10 to 15 games. teams are gelling, they are finding their rhythm. Everythign right now is negative, except for Matty is near a PPG pace, JT and Willie are PPG. Mitch is near a PPG. Samsonov is playing great ( I think I've already shared my opinion about him, he will be our full time starter in the playoffs.)

We are not going to hit 115 points , we will probably be a middle of the pack team 3-4-5-6 seed.

Last year the Leafs after a rough October start go hot and went 12-2 in November.

Lets hope history repeats itself. :crossfing

The best news is Liljegren replacing Holl in the lineup.

Aside from that Samsonov, Tavares and Robertson have pleasantly surprised. The rest of the team not so much.
Don't want to curb your positive but Lily alone still keeps Holl in the lineup IMO

Personally, I'd rather tandem Mete and Kral rather than ice Holl at this point. He's constantly making insane mental errors, and though there are other players that make errors like this on this team, most of them are known for offense generation. Holl is known for only screwing up.

typical crap stirred up by media! Liljegren will be back this weekend and Matt Murray will replace Kallgren fairly soon and team with Samsonov to provide NHL goaltending. Holl can be moved down to 3rd pair and team can get serious about the season. Obviously they had a big team party in their only visit to Vegas! New to the team are Robertson, Malgin, Jarnkrok, Murray, Aube-Kubel, Aston-Reese, Mete and Samsonov! They've played 10 games (6 of them on the road) and got 10 points! Tampa has played 9 games and got 10 points. Colorado and Pittsburgh have played 9 games and got 9 points! How many "experts" bellowed: "it doesn't matter what they do in the regular season, the Leafs have to perform in the Playoffs!"
So sick of bandwagon fans crying the blues and the media stirring up click-bait controversies! So Matthews has only 3 goals...does anybody think he won't finish with 50?

November will be good. Starting with the birthday of my youngest today, followed by my own birthday on thursday, Liljegren back in the lineup and the Leafs rounding into form and winning a lot of games.

There are 29 teams within 2 games of the Leafs. Relax.

Thanks for this thread. I have been negative enough and so has this board so this is needed.
Played the worst they have played and still have 10 points.
Leafs could be 0-0-10 and lost all 10 games in OT/SO and still have 10 points. Not a high bar to reach.

What you meant to say Leafs only won 4 of their first 10 games despite playing 7 non playoff teams from last year, but now that Leafs are going to start playing some top teams so we should start seeing the BEST of the Leafs again.,
