Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVI (Playoffs or Retool?)

Why not Prov?
Am open to a second look w/mo scrutiny, but my expectation is he will want long term and even if not top top dollar will not be cheap and time wise back end of a long term deal may not be good

AFP Projections

Anyone seen this yet? Gavrikov and Orlov seem reasonable based on projections

Gavrikov - 5 years @ $5.4m
Orlov - 3 @ $5m
Maata - 3 @ $3.1m
Kovacevix - 2 years @ $1.55m

They have K'Andre Miller @ 6 years and $5.3m cap hit. SIGN THAT DEAL NOW
Not sure KAM is legit at that quote but I'd try to go max 8 hrs 5.75-6.25, no NMCs, ok level of ntc

Gav on paper is not gonna be that cheap after this and last season looking very good.
Freddie Prinz
lookin good!!!

Elite talent and rising cap are the NYR best scouting tip. Will be getting rid of 20-93-10 and replacing with Eichel Necas Bowen etc....Bottom 6 is covered we just need to go shopping for some top 6.

You don't want Orlov. Especially at the number he likely will get. Gavrikov and Maata. We should get Maata now and resign him. Good replacement for Lindgten and would be a great 3LD with Schneider if we get Gavrikov in the summer. Or another top LD.

Oh look, Fox is a 26 yo 1st pair RD for Team USA. He's on the wrong side of 25. Let's trade him!

Gavrikov played with Shesterkin on SKA. If Shesterkin gives Drury the thumbs up, I could see NYR going after Gavrikov this summer.

The 3 games immediately following the four nations break will dictate our deadline path IMO.

Sabres, Pens, Islanders. That SHOULD be 3 easy wins, but this team doesn't make anything easy.

Win all 3 and we will likely be in a wild card spot. 2-1 probably has us anywhere from 2-4 points back. Any other outcome and we may find ourselves in too big a hole to climb out of.

I'm assuming Mika won't be here after this summer. If he is, I'm honestly not sure this team is serious about winning a cup.

I agree wholeheartedly that we need to start infusing speed up & down the lineup, however.
Gotcha. I’m thinking there’s about an 80 % chance he’ll be here next year. Hopefully, in a lot better shape.

There are no easy wins, but even so, I doubt they are on see-saw and are going to base their actions on how it goes over the last 3-4 games before the deadline.

They'll likely go 1-1-1 just because that's what they are and they like to f*** with us. A mediocre team that regardless of making it or not will find themselves in the 12-18 range of the first round.

But let's not kid ourselves. If they go 3-0 its "buy" mode. If they go 0-3, its "buy" mode. I think Drury has an idea of what type of deal he wants to make and what type of players he wants to bring in for the future, not just to improve their immediate playoff push. The cap space is burning a hole in his pocket and they have a shot to make the playoffs right now so they are preparing to add.

I think he'll try and satisfy both means by using assets to trade for players with term. If a UFA is brought in it may be addition by subtraction (Lindgren hopefully, maybe Jones because he wants to be moved anyway) or for a very late pick that wont mean much either way for the future (7th D type of guy). I dont think we will be seeing them go all in for some of the top names. They've already done that with JT.

I'd be shocked if he stood pat.

I'd also be shocked if they become a traditional "seller", even if they go 0-4 and slip further down the standings before March 1st.

Ottawa can easily miss the playoffs. I would bet my money that they will if I had to guess. Brady T’s NMC kicks in July 1. I imagine the Rangers, Flyers & Devils will be his preferred destinations. I want it to work with Laf and believe it will but he’s going the Sens if that deal is on the table
