I agree. Big defenseman that can skate are always enamored by scouts.

Previously teams were trying to find the next Chara which led to the likes of Boris Valabik being drafted 10th overall.

And with Victor Hedman winning the Conn Smythe and Wallinder skating so much like Hedman, I think there will be a team that is going to draft Wallinder in the top half of 1st round hoping he will become the next Hedman.
Wallinder and Jurmo will go much higher than expected I think. Big, smooth skating D are valued very highly by NHL teams.

How physical is his physical game? I've read some different stuff about him but havent really watched enough to gauge it on my own.

Right pick. I was baffled that he didn't go in the first. Detroit got lucky. Grans is coming up soon.

Broberg is the prospect I’d compare Wallinder to; top notch skating and hands, great size, working on the defensive side of things. High level talent as a prospect. I hope he’s full time in the SHL next season.

I was hoping we could get Wallinder AND Peterka, but 1 of 2 ain’t bad.
if he can work off ice and improve his agility / coordination to go with his skating he becomes a top 4 nhl dman . very first scouting vid i saw of him skating like that for a big man i was instantly hooked on the pick . hopefully he stays in europe long as possible then a year in ahl to get his game polished up

Agility is the furthest thing from Wallinder's problems. The kid was probably top 5 in skating ability in the 2020 draft. Incredible acceleration, top end speed, agility. Someone on the Wings board mentioned a quote from a coach of his and how Wallinder was basically allowed to do what he wanted on the ice in the past, but now that he's in the SHL he is learning to play defense within a structure. That is something he's now learning to do. Conditioning may have been another issue as well because the longer he played the worse his decision making became. It happens to defensemen when they get tired in every league.

Bit dissapointed that he was omitted from the Sweden U20 squad. Oh well, just focus on Rogle and maybe next year become a top 4d and work on your defensive game.

He is 100 times better than Sjöholm and Forsjäll, 2 players who made it.

Yeah he’s taken a huge step this season. Looks much better defensively and has provided a good amount of offense.

Realistic upside is probably a #3.
That’s great to hear! In your opinion would you think Wallinder-Seider could be a pairing? Or are their games too similar?

Wallinder and Johansen will be fighting it out for the 2LD spot behind Edvinsson. Wallinder being able to play the right side might be big for his ice time.

If Wallinder can continue to round out his defensive game it could probably work, the problem is if you want Seider to take the most/toughest minutes he needs a partner that can handle those defensive assignments and Edvinsson is the more likely option.

Umm... no. It's better to split Seider and Edvinsson, because that createst more depth and teams with most depth usually ends up on top. Like Tampa, Hedman doesn't play with the 2nd best d-man.

Seider plays roughly 25 mins per night and eventually Edvinsson will play roughly 25 mins per night. So roughly 50 mins per night, opponent teams best and brightest has to play against Seider and Edvinsson. If Seider and Edvinsson plays in the same pair, opponents only have to endure them for 20-25 mins per night. But of course if there's a game 7 in the playoffs, 59:18 on the clock and Red Wings are shorthanded, then you send Seider - Edvinsson pair on ice.

If Wallinder keeps this up, he's ideal partner for Seider.

I don't think Edvinsson carries a 25+ minute a game pairing by himself the first couple of years. 5 years down the line, sure.

Yeah thats what i meant.

I don't believe that Edvinsson makes similar impact immediately like Seider. At start i would play Edvinsson in the 3rd pair with Lindström, let him earn his minutes first.

He might not but at least he won't have to be the 1D the moment he steps on the ice... thanks to Mo.
