I am still really mad that the Avs passed on him and took Kaut instead.

But my loss is your gain I guess. Glad to see him coming out strong! I don't think he should be in the NHL this season but given that the Devils don't have the hardest blueline to crack, it wouldn't completely shock me either.
Kaut is one of the best players in the draft. Don't be mad.

I highly doubt that. But we will see. Don't really believe he will be more than a 2nd/3rd line guy but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

Even then I would prefer Smith due to positional value alone. Ty will be a stud for a longtime IMO and have more value due to position alone.

yup it was a big mistake to pass on Smith as the clear BPA imo and make a position need pick. Kaut should be a solid player but Avs had a gift fall in their laps and passed to the Devils joy.

Kaut was the best two way winger in the draft unless you count Svech as one. I agree Smith fell too much (I ranked him at 13) but it's bothering me that y'all are saying Kaut is nothing more than a "solid player". I know this is a Smith post so I'm not trying to derail it, but I feel the need to defend picking Kaut.

He has a real smarts about him.

It's one thing to be mobile. It's another to think the game really well on the back end. Watching Ty Smith almost reminds me of watching the mind of Johnny Gaudreau but on the blue line. A comparison for this could be Samuel Girard out of Colorado, but I think Ty Smith will be better defensively.

Two way wingers are found in 3rd and 4th rounds to be honest.

Back to juniors. A little disappointed, but not really surprised.

We don't really have room for another PP specialist on the team, and his all around game will grow more playing big minutes in all situations.

Can't wait to see what he can do this year.

It's not surprising that he's back to Juniors. But i also don't think it's that surprising that he looked as strong as he did to almost force the issue. He's always struck me as one of those players who plays to his best potential when working within a well-defined structure. I think a lot of people kinda overly soured on him due to an underwhelming showing at the Top Prospect Shinny Game, and a short U18 tournament this year where the whole team looked consistently out of sorts. When he's given a clear mandate and can settle into it, he can be a surgeon from the back end when it comes to puck movement and PP quarterbacking.

He's the sort of player who thrives on structure that also tend to adapt more easily to the highly structured NHL game. In that sense, it's kinda disappointing that he's going back to Juniors...but i'm sure he'll find a way to at least get physically more prepared, and he'll get that exposure to things like the WJC and the curveballs that can always throw. That'll help him in the long-run probably. Certainly won't hurt him, like being relegated to a marginal PP specialist role in the NHL might.

He'll be a stud for team Canada although we'll see how desperate the devs get for defence by that time.

One of my favorite players last year.

He looked real good in pre-season. Wondering if anyone's watched him play since he returned ?

He's basically got most of his game down, but I'd like him to get stronger this year.

new jersey is gonna have an exciting d core in a couple years

i think walsh is an underrated pick

same w chainey who is solid for halifax

I am high on Walsh. Really like Davies from Northeastern as well. Too be fair partly because I am a Northeastern alum.

Can’t wait to see how the rest of Ty’s season goes.
