He is also said Willie and Brown had made the Leafs team out of camp in that "Tank season" ...

I'm in the same boat as you. I was so pumped to have him as a coach but I've really soured on him this year. He has a lot of good qualities but you have to really shake your head at his faults
 
I think this is Babcock giving Carrick one last shot, kind of like they did with Marincin. Either he performs or they look to move him or possibly even waive him to give Dermott a permanent spot in the lineup. I have given up hope that Polak is ever coming out the lineup.

I still think he’s an overall positive. I like his system (apart from that weird December in which we just dumped and chased the whole month away?) and I think he gets a lot out of his players.

But he needs a strong front office to take away his toys from him.

eh Quenneville seems like a pretty good one. Healthy scratching a veteran with 3 cups and olympic gold because his play wasnt up to snuff? Would Babs ever do that? I don't think so.

It doesn't matter if you've won 10 cups, if your play isn't up to snuff, you don't play. There are expectations for hockey players no matter what team accomplishments they've been a part of.

He doesn't just throw sticks into the lower bowl; he also is consumed with handedness.

I know. But it apparently doesn't matter to Babcock as Polak's play has not been good enough but he continues to play with no risk of leaving the lineup.

Sure he would. But I don’t think he sits a player to “send a message”. He’ll only sit him if he actually no longer provides value. Babcock has taken many unproductive vets out of the lineups. Even good mentor vets who just couldn’t contribute like Laich and Robidas. Moore is currently sitting for Gauthier who is called up from the Marlies.

For all the pissing and moaning you hear from Leafs fans about Polak, he is currently the best option where he is, and he’s an NHL player. He just doesn’t get sheltered like Borgman and Carrick so he looks worse. He has lots of faults, but you need to keep him as depth.

How does Polak not get sheltered like Carrick and Borgman? Polak is paired with Borgman. And when Carrick plays recently its with Gardiner (who leads team in ES ice).

But fair enough to the rest of the points.

5v5, Polak gets about 10% more defensive zone starts, 10% less OZ starts. Plus, he plays on the PK.
 
Of course everything thinks other teams bottom enders are soooooo much better than the Leafs whether it true or not.
And why hasn't Carrick and Polak been replaced. Mostly because there is no one on the Marlies than are good enough. Well, Dermot has his chance. I think he is gonna be a fine NHLer and hopefully for the Leafs it starts now.
 
I think by the end of the season, not just Leaf fans, but other fans are going to evaluate what the Leafs did in passing up on Konecny and trading down getting Dermott, Bracco and Dzierkals in a whole new light. Dermott is really good, not just at one end of the ice, but both. He has a lot of tools.
