Unless Luke Hughes falls apart Mukh’s long term position is as a third pair defender. That’s not too high of a bar
I mean sure, if that's your expectations for him you indeed have nothing to worry about  Him being the only Russian home-grown D picked in the first round in like million years, my expectations and what I consider to be at stake here is just very different.

Fair enough but he’s not really an offensive defender to my eyes. He started slow this year but has really picked it up points wise. The light goes on for different guys at different times some guys may be ahead of him and that’s fine. Doesn’t mean he can’t eventually play an NHL role. And yes I offer an opinion. I have no problem with that. I think he moves much shyer than he used to. Much more decisive. Will it matter? It’s way too early. I expect he returns to the KHL after NJ plays him in Utica next season and maybe he tries again in a couple of years. Feel sorry for Bahl, I think Mukh's going to make him redundant whenever he comes over.

On the Devils he is probably a 3rd pairing defenseman with a unique skillset. Siegenthaler was one of the best shutdown D last year in the League and L. Hughes has shown that he has the Hughes talent. It would be very hard for him to be placed in a higher pairing.

Lots of other teams would have him higher in their lineup though.

Bahl will have much more experience by the time Shakir returns to North America to finish out this season. I am skeptical Shakir will be willing to play in Utica next season and he will return to Europe.
I'm personally in the "he'll stay in Utica next year camp" but who knows.

It’s not realistic to view him through the lens of Russian first round pick as some sort of bellwether for other picks. If Mukh doesn’t stay in North America but some great players are available in later drafts I doubt the Mukhamadullin experience defines those picks. He doesn’t have to be anything more than ok for him to be a successful pick. As noted NJ will have Siegenthaler and Luke Hughes ahead of him. He just has to be a steady third guy and NJ will be happy.

Some observations from a Salavat Yulaev fan.
First of all, I wanna say that Shakir has already exceeded my expectations. Prior to this season I used to think that he's eventually gonna bust even on KHL level.
But he really upped his game this season and now I can say that his floor is a quality KHL defenseman. Which is not bad tbh.
He's got a hell of a slapper, you just feel it watching him at the stadium. I bet he's got the hardest slapshot in Salavat's squad.
He used to shit his pants on the defensive end (which was the main reason I expected him to bust), but he's really improved in this regard.
He started doing some puck carrying and he's not bad in it. "Just pass or shoot" is a role-player's game, you've to be able to carry the puck if you want to be a high-level player. Glad to see Shakir showing potential in this direction.

Everything you offer is just your opinion. Maybe he pans out maybe he doesn’t but to my eyes he looks much better than at anytime thr past two years. His biggest problem to me is he’s still lanky and needs to fill out. Time will tell.
It almost like this is a discussion board. I imagine all your posts state only irrefutable scientific proof.
