The Young GOAT scored.

Puck slipped off his stick, which threw off the goaltender, not the best goal, but he's played well and deserved the goal.

As is Dahlin, hard to compare the two given positions and difference in leagues but Dahlin is arguably the most talented 17yo D-man in atleast the last 30 years.

Edit: Note, i'm not saying he'll be better then for example Lidström or EK65, but i'm saying he's more talented at 17 then either of them.

Love Dahlin but McDavid was pretty insane pre draft

Who was a forward against kids his age. I mean yeah, he was insane but it's really difficult to compare. I wonder what kind of numbers Dahlin would put up in the OHL. As a d-man mind you.

Also, no slight to McDavid who will be #1 in the world for quite some time.

No doubt he was better than either of them at the same age otherwise both would have gone much higher in their respective draft. He's great and it's fun to think what he can be if he continues to develop. If he flatlines he'll still be a very good NHLer but if he continues to trend up and improve he has the potential to be as good as EK15/NL5

I watched McDavid destroy the U18 WC as a double underager, never have I seen a better prospect. Dahlin is fantastic though, one of a kind.

Just to clarify, i said he'd be as hyped as McDavid, not that he's as good... I think it's too hard to compare to even try to do it, makes no sense to compare them.. The hype train around Dahlin would be insane though.

WJC18 also?
That would be epic. Imagine the complete and utter domination after playing against men both in the SHL and national team all year long. He would carry the entire team (as he was expected to do already last season).
Too bad Frölunda is too good to let him go to that tournament

Cant really hide that I hope NYR keeps on losing and he ends up playing with Lundqvist the last years of his career. Good time zone from Sweden and nice city to visit :naughty:

I think he's a great prospect, but given how erratic developing young D are, the importance of franchise centers to rebuilding teams (and the fact you can generally only find them in the top 10 of the draft), and forwards give you, that unless a team that was set at center won the lotto, he would have trouble going ahead of guys such as Tavares, Eichel and Matthews.

It will be interesting how he's viewed compared to Hedman by his draft date. He is notably better than Hedman at 17 (and Hedman took awhile to hit full stride at the NHL level), but Hedman's tools led people to rank him extremely high, as you just don't see 6'7 guys who are that fluid on skates with high-iq. Dahlin probably would be ranked ahead, but Hedman's tools, combined with the success of guys like Pronger and Chara, made people rank him extremely high. Dahlin has good size, ridiculous hands and edges (allowing for his elusiveness) and high IQ.

I do think Dahlin is starting to cement going #1. From what I've seen of Svechnikov in the OHL, while a great talent, due to being a winger it will be very tough to challenge Dahlin. Svechnikov looks good, but its not like he's come over and tore the league a new one like Patrick Kane did. He looks more Taylor Hall level (as a prospect), than an uber-elite guy.

This season's U18 WC will start six days later than last year's tournament, and Frölunda have lost some impact players and it looks they are slightly worse this season. And hopefully Sweden's coaching staff is more patient this time... I think there is a pretty decent chance he's playing this upcoming U18 WC.

It would be so cool to watch him and Boqvist paired together at the WJC-18, those two might score 20 points on the same pair.

If we draft Dahlin, I'm gonna change my poster name to Rasmus Dahlin, unless someone takes it before I do. I actually wonder if the NHL will conspire to give the #1 pick to a team that plays on the East Coast. I can only imagine how bad it'll be for their ratings in Sweden if he's drafted by Arizona, for example.

He'll probably get the most attention in Sweden if he plays in Detroit or for the Rangers.

I don't think they would ever conspire to do something like that. Otherwise McDavid sure as hell wouldn't be in Edmonton, and Laine wouldn't be in Winnipeg. I think Edmonton's wins over the past decade show the NHL is not fixing the lottery.

I bet that overseas rights to the NHL are such a small part of the NHL's revenue, that it isn't worth the PR disaster if it was discovered. Just hope for your team wins, Ernst and Young isn't going to rig a lotto.

I doubt the NHL care about their ratings in Sweden. I dont even think Viasat who owns the rights to the NHL in Sweden cares.

So which team would be good for him? Carolina have some interesting d-men in Slavin, Hanifin and Faulk, and some Swedes too. That wouldn't be a bad situation. I guess they would rather have a #1 center though. Any other suggestions?

They don't. If they did they wouldn't have put Leafs on a west coast road trip during the week when there is only 5 hours different between swedish time and ET  A game starting 12 am instead of 1 am is huge

I feel your pain. They decided to let my Penguins go on a road trip to western Canada during this short but usually amazing time of the year when you can actually watch games without being a zombie the day after -.-
