Zadorov's agent just practically confirmed my "conspiracy". The Zadorov camp feel they're done with the Knights. Maybe we can stop with the official story that Zadorov is being blocked from playing anywhere because his KHL team won't release him for the Knights. Zadorov isn't playing anywhere because Zadorov doesn't want to play in the OHL when he's bound to the CHL-NHL agreement as a player drafted out of the OHL. In the end I imagine CSKA Moscow will pay the Knights to release him and he'll have a team to play for shortly (CSKA Moscow although other European clubs are interested). A lot of misplaced blame at the Knights and the CHL-NHL agreement for Zadorov not having a place to play. Zadorov could play for London this weekend if he wanted to.

The bolded is not the official story. The official story is the quote from Jakubowski who is our assistant GM in charge of contracts and cap matters. It also doesn't say that the team wants him in London. The team didn't want Grigorenko in Quebec last year, trying to get him in the AHL on a conditioning stint and then trying to loan him to the SM-Liiga before finally sending him down.

The Buffalo Sabres have not decided whether defenseman Nikita Zadorov will stay in the NHL this season. For that matter, they haven't even decided if he'll ever play in the NHL this season

Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald reported on Sunday that Zadorov's agent, Rolland Hedges, said Zadorov's team in Russia has not granted a release. Even if that's true, the Sabres don't seem to believe it's an issue.

Sabres assistant general manager Mark Jakubowski told me that their position on Zadorov is quite clear: NHL or OHL.

"The information we have is that he is under contract to London and that's the only place we can send him," Jakubowski said. "We've talked to the league. If he's not in Buffalo, the league's position has been, 'No, we can't loan him to the American League, he has to go to London.' The league wouldn't even allow us to send him to the KHL."

I believe Grigorenko and his agent are actually the ones who tried to get him in the SM-Liiga. What was first reported as Grigorenko "refusing" to go back to Quebec was actually them trying to exhaust all the options they could.

My apologies for using Bill Hoppe's article as the "official story", it seemed to be what a lot of posters were going off of as well.

Zadorov has been dominating in corsi and Fenwick this year despite being 19 years old but only has one point. Does anyone know what his offensive upside is?

Hard to really judge, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him put up Seabrook-type numbers (10 G, 40 pts) over the course of a season...when the Sabres get good.

I can't remember when Nolan started to pair Zadorov with Ristolainen, it was 4 or 5 games ago, but the sabres have won their past 3 games and just before that Buffalo lost to Minnesota 6-3 and Zadorov was +3.

Kid is a stud(Risto too).

There was a question about what his offensive upside was going into his draft year...but he took a big jump last year doubling his production down in London. Watching him here...he's just a big fearless kid who will do whatever you tell him too. There is nothing better than when he hits a guy and you see the ridiculously big smile on his face as he skates back. He really is just a big kid on his face.

The only question about his offensive talent came because Dale Hunter didn't let him do what he did best. It was limited minutes and play D. You could see the kid had the tools to be threat but were never allowed to shine.

Zads also said that he wasn't allowed much freedom to jump into the offense before he came to the OHL in Russia either. Seems like he's really reveling in having a little more slack on his leash now. A lot of young defensemen try to be cautious and end up looking like they're so afraid of making a mistake that they miss out on countless opportunities to make plays. Not Zads though. Kid is not shy about jumping into the rush or going for big hits. I love his enthusiasm, on and off the ice. My 2nd favorite soundbite from him (after "I love to hit people and score goal") was when he finally got put into his first game this year and told Rob Ray "Get your popcorn, I'm in tonight".

I just love that Nolan seemed to be annoyed that Zadorov kept asking if he'd play today early in the year...and when he finally put him in...not only does he play everyday...but he led the team in ice time yesterday.

Yes Teddy...he play today

You know, it's worked out so well it's hard to find criticism now. He's playing great, we've got him with the ideal partner (Risto), and it looks like the Sabres knew what they were doing with him.

Good situation here.
