1, its a team game
2. He did extremely well in the WJC outside of the one game.
3. He was the 2nd best Defenseman in that tournament behind Jiricek.
4. You do realise that Hughes was injured during the last WJC game but the coach decided to keep him in?
5. You basing your opinion on him on two bad games is hilarious so thanks for the laugh.
Ah so you had an injury excuse lined up, fitting. Every big game he plays in his worst game. Doesn't seem to be a coincidence anymore with the amount of times it has happened.

People overthink things with defensemen too much. If you have Erik Karlsson don't get mad that he's not Chris Pronger, be happy he's Erik Karlsson. A lot of these "concerns" are similar to what Quinn was hearing and what Adam Fox were hearing. Don't worry, just let him play hockey. If he's a liability, then bench him, if he's leading the charge from the back and producing a lot of offense, don't stress about picking apart his defensive play.

So you think there is a conspiracy happening? Some how Luke Hughes gets "injured" when playing in the biggest games? Thats an interesting take...

Guess the Doctors that confirmed his injury were in on it and he really was just having fun at home while being unable to play with his college team for weeks.

The only minus player on the team in his debut. Impressive.

Ignorance at best. Trolling at worst. Obviously someone who didn't watch the game. Posts like this are what make this site unbearable at times.

For the ignorant. The minus came from Siegenthaler losing his helmet in the defensive zone and having to immediately leave the ice. His partner Dougie Hamilton turned it over behind his own net while Siegenthaler was leaving the ice, which ended up in the back of the net. Hughes got a minus because he jumped on for Siegenthaler but the turnover and goal had already happened before Hughes could get into the play.

are you proud of yourself for this comment?

You watched the game so you know exactly what happened yet you decided to show the maturity of a 11 year old and came here to take unwarranted shots at this prospect because your team was sent golfing.

All in all a pretty uneventful game. Had one beautiful move in the offensive zone, and a couple really nice defensive plays but mostly it was uneventful. Which for a rookie dman in his first NHL game without training camp, I think is fine by me.

He definitely was trying to play a safe smart game, though, it showed.

Don’t get the backlash to this post, they won 6-2 all even strength goals. Definitely unimpressive to be the only minus, the other guys on the ice would’ve got a minus for that goal too. They’re acting as if it solely affected Luke lmao. That is an unfavorable stat. He looked horrible compared to Quinn in his first NHL game which was at the end of his D+1 rather than D+2. I went to Quinn’s first game and he was electric out there, like watching Pavel Bure as a dman. Whole crowd was chanting “we want Hughes” in OT until the coach put him out there and he deked around everybody and nearly setup the winner, already had a point that game too. By far the least dynamic of the 3 brothers.

Brain dead post. Don’t even need to point out why.

Great argument. I ranked Hughes quite high on my astoundingly accurate prospect rankings list a year ago but he was abysmal tonight. I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Quinn played 15:30 minutes and Luke played 11:15 minutes

Quinn played against the 2nd worst team in the league and Luke played against the 20th who was fighting for a playoff chance.

It got pushback because it was a silly petty post just like yours. If you had actually watched the game you’d realize the minus wasn’t on him and you wouldn’t be talking about Quinn almost scoring and you would realize that both were similar ages when they made their NHL debut regardless of their draft plus status and you’d refrain from making blanket statements based on one game sample sizes. All in all a typical drive by Rangers fan take on a Devils prospect. Your post here was full of crap.

Luke Hughes is no Quinn Hughes but is certainly going to be a good player in the league.

I thought he was okay. Someone pointed out how unfortunate it was he got the minus which was true, it’s not like he did anything to earn that minus.

After one NHL game you can tell that? Why hasn't the Canucks hired you since you have such an eye for talent?

Are you actually dense? He’s played 1 NHL game, did you truly think he was already a top 15 defenseman?

My god you’re soft as shit. I’m not even coming to trash Luke.

I think people are pretty spoiled from when Makar made his NHL debut in the middle of the playoffs and was basically instantly a 1D. Hughes was fine, if not very tentative.
