The coverage wasn't great, but what I really dislike is smashing the stick against the goal post, and then doubling down and doing it again. Some may praise the "passion" or whatever, but to me it just screams immaturity. Like you lost a hockey game, deal with it kid. I know he's the youngest in the family so maybe he's a bit of a baby at times. Hopefully he can grow from it. Can't have that sort of attitude in the pros IMO.
Lmao what? This is an 18 year old kid who just lost in overtime (and was directly on the ice) as his team lost out on a chance at D-1 college championship. No crap he's going to be upset.

Whacking your stick against the goal post (and then doing it again) is never acceptable. If I had a 10 year old that did that, I'd be embarrassed (and if the game wasn't already over, come down and pull them from the ice) and in any event have a serious talk about it.

The game being "big" doesn't make it more OK imo. Like you said, he's 18, so it's probably just an immaturity thing.

This is the oddest take I've seen from an NHL fan in quite some time, guys break their sticks on crossbars/posts on a nightly basis in the NHL. Just watch almost any game decided in OT, someone is whacking a crossbar almost every time

Its all part of the "p***yfication of America". Its everything thats wrong with society today! I want more raw emotion and passion. I am tired of seeing robots and politically correct answers.

Totes agree! He absolutely should have immediately put a smile on his face, high-fived his teammates for a great season, and then proceeded to celebrate with Denver in the spirit of good sportsmanship!

Have you ever played a sport before? How do you react when your favourite team loses in overtime? Now imagine that except rather then watching on tv you're one of those players on the ice.

He could be viewing it as the best way to make sure he hits his peak productivity (and thus peak contract value) rather than just in terms of length of service, quicker access to his second contract, and such.
I think he just really likes being a student athlete at UMich. He'll never get another opportunity to do this again, and some guys are cut a little different. Maybe he's not an instant-gratification kinda guy.

You personally might not like it, but pro players often wack their sticks in frustration in situations like that too and no one calls them babies. Well again, you personally might call them babies, but it’s not how that’s generally described.

The decision to go pro is made with the team and NHL defenseman is particularly a position where players are traditionally not one and done in college.

He has an early birthday, he’s on the same development calendar as Quinn and other top defensemen. When the 2021 draft was in relation to his birth date shouldn’t affect that.

Lol “you lost a hockey game deal with it”. He’s 18 and just lost the biggest game of his life, grandma. I’m glad he was pissed, he should be.

He said in his post game, he was really frustrated at his partial breakaway,
He had the game on his stick and puck rolled last second and he shot it right into the chest.

Oh, I thought the trapezoid behind the crease was a safe space where players go to cry. I was wrong all of these years?

Could be advice from his brothers on the difference between how Quinn and Jack have begun their careers as quality of life stuff.

If a few people who watched Michigan closer than a lot of us could re-cap what they think of as the good and the bad in Luke's game, I'd appreciate it. What you think might translate vs. what he needs to do in year two, etc.

Instead of, uh, whatever this is right now.

Oh yeah, it was 100% his fault and he knew it too. Now has to live with the shame of costing the most talented college hockey team ever assembled a shot at a national championship, but the millions he will get in the NHL will soothe the pain.

Going back is stupid, he has a guaranteed roster spot in the NHL next season.
Lol. Yes all his fault they lost.
Anyways , back to reality .
Nit sure if Michigan would be the best place for him to further develop but I would say the NHL is not. Not yet.
The only thing about going back to Michigan is who is to say that his coach and the team will develop his game and focus in on his defensive side of the game? Maybe they just want him to do what gives them the nest chance to win and don’t utilize him in a way that would focus in on defence? They want to win . Cant see them catering to what makes Hughes the best player he can be but rather get the most out of him to help them win?
