Why is it controversial to say I expect progression from one season to the next?

Well for starters, he is progressing. Even if he put up the same points, who cares? That record lasted decades for a reason.

The guy that lead hockey east in scoring as a rookie D, who has 27 points in 18 games this year; is probably the last person you should be slagging for production.

It just comes across as delusional hating.

should be able to carve out a solid career like Marc-Andre Bergeron. He should be a very valuable asset so long as he's heavily sheltered at 5v5 and spoonfed PP time.

MAB made his entire value on a crazy good slapshot. He wasn't really an offensive dynamo, in the way I think you're trying to imply.

Huston is creative offensively even if he does things he won't be able to do at the NHL and has a very high compete level even if his size keeps him from being super strong. Those two things will allow him to be a pretty decent player, not just a PP specialist.

it's been 24 hours since a leafs or sens fan has compared him to Marc Andre Bergeron, what's going on

if you're concerned, you can head into the other habs prospect threads; they've washed up in there

Can't blame them. They don't have any prospects to talk about so they have to come talk about the Habs'.

I see it more like Shayne Gostisbehere. MAB was never at any point in his career near as dynamic as Lane Hutson.

MAB was just a PP guy, period. Big shot. And was likely far worse defensively than Hutson will ever be. MAB was played on the 4th line LW a lot, for that reason. And I think MAB was terrible defensively not only because he was small, he was also dumb AF. I think Lane is smart, but weak and a poor backwards skater and for those reasons, I'm skeptical as to him translating to a full time NHL D.

Hutson thread dropped to the 5th page?? Say it aint so!!!!

It's ok I watched the BC games... I understand why there is nothing to say.

He's obviously a tremendous talent, but I actually liked his 2 way play a lot more last year. I don't know if he's gotten a bit complacent or what, but he's taken a step back in that area vs last year.

I'm not sure (actually I'm quite sure you don't, but being nice) that you understand the concept or definition of "progression."
I do. I just think Montreal fans like yourself are bent too far out of shape that one random bloke over the internet doen’t have a blinding bias towards their small second round pick defende.

Funny how opinions on Hutson have greatly changed since the start of this thread to where we are now..
What has changed?

Have they really changed though? Has anyone doubted his offensive potential? You have some critics who will look at his stature, skating, or perception of two way play and doubt his long term viability as a top four NHL all situations defender, but as a dispassionate observer, the same statements have been made for some time about him. At this point there may be some waning interest from fans that only follow the NHL and only care about a prospect that will play for the team they root for. Ultimately, he will go as far as his defense takes him. I have no doubt he will QB a PP and with the puck on his stick will be quite a dangerous player. It is what he will do without the puck that will define his career. If he can just be slightly below average defensively his overall impact should be quite positive. I guess the best case scenario is sort of like Fox or Quinn Hughes? The low end is a third pair guy who runs the PP which is still a good player when you put it in context.
